(More customer reviews)I was looking for a MP3 CD Player to replace the CD only player in my kitchen.After all, who wants to just listen to a single CD these days right?Surprisingly, that type of player is very hard to find, so I was happy to discover this one on Amazon.It arrived, and it does everything listed in the features (MP3 CD, regular CD, MP3 USB, MP3 SD, and even Cassettes).For the size (and price) the sound is pretty good.

So what makes it not great?Well, I unpack the unit, plug it in (after finding the power cord stored in the battery compartment), and pop in one of my car MP3 CD's with 160 songs on it.Yippee!, it plays MP3's, and then the disappointment sets in.After punching all the buttons, and then reading the manual, there is NO WAY to select random/shuffle play.Yup, you're stuck listening to all 160 songs in the EXACT SAME ORDER as they're burned to the CD (or USB or SD).

So every day when you sit down to breakfast, and woof down your Cheerios, you get to hear songs 1-7.Next day, songs 1-7, day after 1-5 (running late), etc, etc.WTF?Who would design such a player?

So it's a MP3 CD Player - it's just not a very smart one.

I was going to order a second one for my bathroom (who doesn't shower to music???), now I'm not so sure.

--Update Aug 14th 2010--

Just a few months after purchasing, and it doesn't play CD's or MP3CD's anymore.No matter what known good disk is inserted - it says NOd (meaning no disk).

I'd expect (and could live with) this if it was a $18.99 craptastic special from Walmart - but for $58 plus shipping it's a TOTAL RIPOFF.

Unfortunately there's no way to change my "Star rating" - cause now it's a lowly ONE STAR not the 4 I originally gave it.

Avoid at all cost.The search for a decent MP3 CD Boombox continues :(

(More customer reviews)I'm a bit confused as to some of the negative reviews for this CD player.It is not advertised as having a flash drive nor does it say you can play an MP3 player through it.It states it will play CDs with MP3 files on it.Big difference.Also, complaints about the tuner not being digital...nowhere is it advertised to be.People really should read the description of the product before buying it and then complaining about it in a review.

This is a great CD player.I've had it for several weeks now and have never had an issue with it at all.CDs play fine and the radio (AM & FM) come in crystal clear.I would definitely recommend this CD player to someone looking for a no-frills player that works extremely well for the price.Compact, light-weight and EXTREMELY easy to use.My six-year-old daughter uses it with no problem at all.HIGHLY recommended.

(More customer reviews)First, I took it out of box and I could sense something was wrong with the power cord. It jiggles where it plugs into machine, which causes machine to turn off. Could not get it right. I held the cord in place while I tried radio which is VERY poor quality: static, stations shift. I switched it to CD player (button felt like it might fall off!), it made a buzzing noise, displayed 1, blinked allot, then stopped itself. It never played. I tried this several times. No go. With the way the power cord was, I felt like I was doing a juggling act! I gave it one star only because I had to. I really give it NO STARS! So I packed it up and it's on its way back to Amazon. DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!!

Connect Any MP3 Player

I called the manufacturer and they said they only supported charging the Ipod Nano up to the 2nd generation.

I wish the product description includes this most important fact.

So, I had to return the product for full refund.

If you have a fine-tuned ear, I suggest you look for another product. I hear a lot of static when I listen to my iPod unless I turn up the volume. I still use it almost daily, but wished I had done a little research to find something better. But given it's low price, it's handy to have to take places and not worry about it getting damaged.

Coby MPCD450BLK Portable MP3/CD Player with AM/FM Tuner and Cassette Deck (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)I was looking for a boombox that could play MP3's burned on CD's, with a cassette player.Unfortunately, the number of portable units that met these two basic criteria was quite limited.The Colby MPCD450 is one, and it is a basic no frills player that while somewhat crude, delivers pretty decent performance, at a relatively low price.

Players often have issues with reading MP3's burned on certain brands of blank CD or CD RW media.So far the MPCD450 hasn't had any such issues, and has been able to play everything, including material recorded over ten years ago.After reading a CD, the player begins automatically playing the disc.

Sound quality isn't the greatest, mostly treble, with very little bass.You are stuck with what you get, as there are absolutely no tone adjustment controls.Not the best situation for music, but it's not that bad for the spoken word, things like podcasts, audio books, or talk radio programs.Given the size of its speakers, the unit is capable of quite high volumes.Since it favors the treble end, heavy distortion usually isn't a problem.

The controls are basic and quite crude.The knobs and switches feel cheap and flimsy.The AM/FM radio gets good reception, but is tuned manually using a dial tuner, instead of a digital one.Thankfully the CD player has a lighted LCD display.For no apparent good reason, the control buttons for the CD differ from the traditional layout.At a time when almost everything has a remote control, this unit does not have one.There are also no provisions for connecting an Ipod or MP3 player.Aside from a headphone jack on the left side of the unit, there are no line ins or outs.

It's a pretty ridiculous, but cassette tapes almost always fail to seat properly when inserted, so you have to reach inside and tilt the cassette slightly in order to close the door.The buttons are pretty stiff and clunky, and the player auto stops only in the Play and Record modes, not Rewind or Fast Forward.Forget to turn it off, and you may burn out your motor, or drain your batteries.The unit uses eight D sized batteries (12V), which adds to its bulk.The window over the cassette is translucent black plastic, but it is so dark that you need a flashlight to see through it.

If you are interested in high quality audio, look elsewhere.This player is mostly for those times where you just want some basic sounds.The primary function I needed, the ability to play MP3's, it does very well indeed, and I am very satisfied with its performance.The cassette player is also nice to have as well, and does a good job of recording from radio or CD.Hopefully the player will have a long usable life.

GPX BT780B 7 Inch LCD Portable TV/DVD/AM/FM Boombox Review

(More customer reviews)This unit has impressive audio for its price range and supports multiple audio formats. Unfortunately this unit will only play back DVDs in stretched wide-screen (16:9) format, meaning that if you want to watch DVDs recorded in 4:3 aspect ratio, you will have to put up with a world of elliptical circles and extra-wide people. I realize that some people are not as sensitive to this distortion as I am (art training will do that to you), but I had to return my BT780B because although the unit has a menu that offers 16:, 4:3PS (pan & scan) and 4:3LB (letter box), the selections have no effect on the display. I talked to GPX tech support about this, and they had no solution.

I had no problem with the small screen as my intended use was to sit it in front of me on the desk or table and watch instructional videos. The audio fidelity stereo imaging in this arrangement is excellent, unlike those fold-up DVD players with tiny underpowered speakers. The FM reception is quite good with a nice balance of selectivity and sensitivity for this price range, and it includes a mono option which is really necessary if you listen to distant FM transmitters where the hiss can ruin the stereo but the reception can be excellent on mono. I am in a fringe area for VHF TV reception but a couple local UHF stations came in clearly, even with the minimal antenna provided.

Since this small a screen will be watched at close reading distance, GPX would do well to upgrade the 7" screen resolution which is a bit grainy at watching distance, and of course fix the problem of not supporting 4:3 aspect ratio. Ideally, I would like the choice of watching 4:3 in either "pillarboxed" format or cropped top and bottom with a choice of scroll position, as different material benefits from different treatments. Meanwhile this is a good audio boombox with a 16:9 DVD capability only.

(More customer reviews)At this price point, I do not feel that you can expect superior sound.I do think that this unit has good sound that is average to this price point or slightly better.My daughter loved the color.It is fairly small and will fit great on her night stand.It is also great for travel due to its size (we are used to hauling around a much larger one).

I wouldn't hesitate to buy this again for a child.At this price, even if it breaks in a year, she will have gotten good use out of it.(one of the reasons we don't buy more expensive things for her is that she is a little hard on them).

There is a circular thing that is right behind where the ipod sits and it can be pulled out or pushed in depending on if you have a larger or smaller ipod.This is great compared to other units we have, because my daughter has a nano and it prevents it from being pushed back and potentially bending the connector prongs.It certainly adds to the stability of the ipod.

UPDATE:runs on ac power or batteries.

The cd player made a whispering noise, skipped songs and wouldn't repeat a song once you hit the repeat button. Super cute, but absolutely worthless if you want it to play cds.
