Delphi Sa 10034 Skyfi Cd Audio System Review

(More customer reviews)The mere thought of a combination satellite radio/cd/radio boombox delights the ears. I needed a CD player/radio AND wanted to be able to listen to my XM radio, so I gave this boombox a try. What a disappointment. The main problem is the background noise on the XM radio. The faint high-pitched hum only occurs when listening to the XML radio. The CD player and radio sound fine, however, CDs skip and sometimes hesitate to play. Removing the XM radio takes some practice. You snap the unit into the adapter, which is fine, but to remove it, you have to push on the radio until the unit slides forward. That was my experience.

If you don't already own a Delphi XM radio, consider the Audiophase satellite radio Skybox with AM/FM/CD/MP3 player. Or you could add a receiver to an XM radio family plan,[...].

Creative D100 Wireless Bluetooth Speaker (Black) Review

I've owned the Creative D100 Wireless Bluetooth Speaker for two months (paid $78.47).I'm very pleased.The sound quality is excellent for this type of speaker.The volume is loud enough to completely fill a room or a small outdoor area (e.g., patio).I've enjoyed it on the beach and found quality does not suffer much at high volumes.

Like with any small speaker, if you crank it to max volume, there is some distortion on bass-heavy songs.But the distortion is slight, and the bass sounds great if you have the volume appropriately set for the type of audio you are streaming.

On that note, there is no remote.The only way to control the volume is the `volume up' and `volume down' buttons on the front of the speaker or directly from streaming device ONLY IF it allows it.That is, my iPhone (3G - iOS 3.1.3) CANNOT change the speaker's volume while streaming, but my laptop can.In my use, I have not needed a remote.Usually I directly set the speaker's volume for the environment (e.g., bathroom, patio) and forget it.No remote also means you must control the streaming media from your device.There are no media control buttons on the speaker.

There is an auxiliary input on the back of the speaker, if you want to hook up a non-bluetooth device, or maybe just to save battery by not using Bluetooth.

Pairing with Bluetooth-capable devices (in my case, iPhone 3G and HP laptop) is simple and quick.

Battery life (four AA) is excellent.It is so long I cannot even put an estimate in terms of hours.It also came with an AC adapter, but I have never used it.The battery compartment is underneath the speaker.

The speaker is fairly small and very light.I actually carry it from room-to-room to enjoy while I am doing chores.

My only concern with the speaker is the build quality.The plastic casing is sturdy, but the front face of the speaker (surrounding the name plate and volume controls) is made of cloth.The cloth is spongy, but I am worried that it will inevitably tear with my heavy use of the speaker.There is no travel case included with the speaker.

Looking for a portable Bluetooth wireless speaker, I also considered the Logitech Z515 ($90, smaller and cloth-free).I've never used that Logitech speaker, but I ultimately chose the Creative D100 based on superior reviews for sound quality and bass quality.Look into both.There are good reviews for them and a comparison on CNET, if you want more information.

(More customer reviews)I had no idea how hard it would be to find a satisfactory boombox that also had the tv/dvd player built in.This looked the best of the three models I could find on Amazon and was the first of the three devices we tried, each with frustrating shortcomings in the design or quality.The other two were GPX BT780B 7 Inch LCD Portable TV/DVD/AM/FM Boombox and the Coby TFDVD7091 7-Inch DVD/MP3/CD Player and ATSC/NTSC TV Tuner, BlackAll three could be harshly described as cheap chinese junk, but for the money we were not expecting audiofile quality and manufacture. But design decisions torpedoed all three at fullfilling what we wanted from the devices. I don't like hassling with sending stuff back to Amazon, but all three were returned and we ended up settling on separate devices for the portable cd/tv/dvd functionality that we wanted. If these could have been examined in store we likely never would have bought any of them.

When first using it, I really, really tried to like this NAXA unit and justify keeping it, but sent it back for several reasons. To be fair, some people will probably find this device suitable to their wants and like it.

I had three main intended uses for this boombox and this one device appeared to have it all, plus it was the only one I could find that had battery, AC, and car adapter DC power options (a huge plus for our intended uses). It turned out to not be particularly good for any of our three main purposes.

First, we wanted it to play audio cds upstairs where we have no stereo.Though it is billed as a boombox, the dvd player does not play audio cds!This may be the unit's biggest flaw and it is hard to fathom it not playing an audio cd but playing dvd. I know cds are on there way out and digital downloads are in, but it has a disc player already installed!And it is a boombox!

Secondly, we were going to strap it to the console of our van for the 12 hour trips we take to visit family and use the dvd to keep our daughter's attention when she got road weary. The sound for music seemed okay, no great dynamic range but listenable, but when playing a dvd male voice dialogue was hard to discern. They sounded muffled and the only solution was to turn up the volume more than we wanted it.We could find no tone or EQ settings to try and boost the mid-range and figured it would be nearly impossible to understand dialogue over the road noise in our van.The screen image was also brighter and better on the NAXA than the other two models we tried.

The third reason we wanted this was for emergency tv/radio. While we never bothered to attempt the tv because we knew it was going back, the analog FM tuner was very touchy and difficult to dial in stations as if it was an afterthought in the design. But the battery power was a plus for emergency tv and radio if you need them for that.

Comparing the NAXA and the GPX, the build quality appeared reasonably stout on the NAXA and didn't scream cheapo electronics as badly as the GPX model, which is odd because the two models share several design elements and probably schematics for the the button controls as they were nearly identical. These probably come from the same Chinese contract factory. The GPX was flimsier but to it's advantage it has a front load disc drive and the NAXA is a top loader after you flip the screen up.

Some pros for the NAXA:
1) The multiple electrical inputs are great and surprisingly hard to find on a portable tv/dvd combo.
2) The screen image for the dvd we tested, "Charlottes Web", was pleasant
3) It is compact

Bottom line on the NAXA: if you don't care that it does not play music cds or may be hard to hear in a moving car, it might work for you. It has a lot of features for the money, but the quality will obvious challenge a long life for this device.

(More customer reviews)This is a great little box in almost every way, and so it is more useful, I think, to say what the downside is.

The CD player remembers where it was only during the pause-state, and the pause-state doesn't last very long.Turn it off, and you've lost your place.This is a minor issue, because a small pad and pencil an resolve it.

Considering that the external FM antenna, in my location, does not have to be extended, it would have been nicer to have an FM antenna built-in and just have the external antenna for those of us far from a signal source.

Other than that, my wife has been delighted to be able to listen to any kind of current CD, her iPod, or a USB flash drive with music files on it (the drive has to be formatted as a Windows flash drive, which can be done on an OS X Mac as well as on a Windows PC), or listen to the radio.

The sound is very pleasant to listen to and is high quality considering the size of the speakers.In fact we intend to get a second one for another location in the house.

SIRIUS Stratus 6 Dock-and-Play Radio with Car Kit (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this to replace an Audiovox PNP2 radio purchased in 2004...after wasting tons of time and effort trying to make it continue to work properly. I had purchased three home docks and one auto dock for the PNP2 so I was not thrilled when it started to fail. I could not get consistient reception with the PNP2 even after placing the antennae in various places outside my home. I even bought an antenna extender so I could place the antenna on the roof, free from obstruction...no dice. I listen to Sirius all day long so reception problems were driving me nuts!

I ordered the Stratus 6 (with car kit) and a home kit from Amazon because they had the lowest pricing and free shipping. I only ordered one home kit to be sure everything worked properly. After spending a short time connecting everything to a receiver on the first floor I was ready to take the antenna outside for a test when, to my surprise, I heard music! The new antenna was pulling a signal from inside the house! I was completely floored and soon realized that the technology has been enhanced quite a bit since the days of the PNP2. I now keep the unit on top of an organ next to the receiver and keep the antenna curled up, pointing at a wall, and I get all three reception bars! Moving to another stereo in another part of the house is so simple that I don't even need to purchase additional docks. I wish I hadn't waited so long.

The car kit is just as great...I plugged the supplied 3.5mm to 3.5mm connector to my AUX IN, ran the antenna through to the trunk, and found a convenient spot on the dash for the dock. WAY better reception than the crappy PNP2 car dock!

I was able ot transfer my lifetime subscription to the new unit in about five minutes ($75 fee for that but worth it to call all the way to India for assistance ;-)

The blue display is so easy to read and the 10 pre-sets are adequate to get me around the dial quickly. Sound is stellar! I highly recommend this unit!

I paid around $100 for it and really loved using it for the two years it lived.We're pretty well-stocked in the way of iPod accessories (iLuv clock/radio, iPod dock on our surround sound, iTravel, and then our PCs themselves), so I only actually used it outside and on a couple of family vacations.For us it did the trick, playing my iPod while relaxing with friends outside during our 3 1/2 months of summer here PLUS it was portable enough to take when we went away.I loved the way it looked with its built-in handle, and never thought the sound was lacking.I actually never thought anything about it was negative at all.Until now.

Just today, after not using it for the past eight months I plugged it in and went to turn it on and NOTHING!The power pack attached to the electric cord shows the green light, but hit that on/off button and absolutely nothing happens.Oh, well, the display did illuminate for a nano-second on one or two of my tries, but that was about it.Googled the problem and it seems I'm not alone.Quite a few others have posted this issue in several different forums but there's not ONE solution posted at all...just that others are indeed experiencing the same problem.

So I'm kind of in the middle here.I liked it a lot, but I bet I'd used it no MORE than 40 or 50 times.Was it worth the money for two years of only occasional use?Ummm, for me, no.And I'm kinda bummed because ***I*** was the one who out-and-out refused to take my boombox down to the beach for fear of ruining it (always stayed up in the beach house)!So it was well taken care of...nothing I did to cause this problem, of that I'm sure.

Take this for what it's worth.They've REALLY come down in price so you might want to give it a shot...it wasn't a bad product while it worked.As for me, I just bought a Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere.We're going to see if we have better luck with that one!

(More customer reviews)I choose the JVC Sirius tuner because of this boombox.It is by far the best boombox available for satellite.The sound is good due to it having separate tweeters mounted coaxially with the woofers unlike the other brands which just have a full range speaker.It's very easy to operate.It has an input for things like your MP3 player and a headphone output which mutes the speakers.It even has a built in fan to cool the tuner which is really nifty.Definately the way to go to take Sirius to the pool or yard.

(More customer reviews)UPDATE - 9/19/2007:I WROTE THE COMPANY VIA E-MAIL.AFTER A COUPLE OF E-MAILS, THEY WROTE BACK, TOLD ME THEY WOULD HONOR THE WARRANTY, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS EXPIRED, AND REPLACED THEUNIT WITH A NEW ONE.THE COMPANY STOOD BY THE PRODUCT.THE NEW UNIT IS AN IMPROVED MODEL, AND IT IS MUCH BETTER.FOR THE PRICE, IT'S AN PRETTY GOOD VALUE.AT LEAST THE ONE WE HAVE WORKS NOW.THANKS TO iLIVE FOR BEING A STAND-UP COMPANY.We purchased this unit at a Kohl's in Arkansas in April.It is a cheaply made unit.If you turn up the volume very loud, the CD player will skip, so apparently there is no anti-skip feature.That's extremely annoying.The unit began to give problems just after the 90-day warranty (imagine that!) and now it will not turn on at all.The clock display will appear if the unit is plugged in, with the time of 12:00, but you cannot set or change it.The iPod will charge, but will not play.We are going to throw this hunk of junk in the trash.I certainly cannot sell it to anyone, as it will not function or play, PERIOD.Perhaps another manufacturer has a better quality type of iPod boom box that will work well.Whatever you do, PLEASE do yourself a favor, and avoid this product like the plague!I intend to write the company over this most disapointing experience.
