Unirex Rx-918U Portable Cd/Mp3 Player With USB Port Review

Unirex Rx-918U Portable Cd/Mp3 Player With USB Port
Average Reviews:

Bought this player to sit on the desk at work, primarily because I wanted a portable unit with a USB port.

The off / on button quit working the first day, and is now taped in the 'on' position. The light for the display also quit working within a few days.

Inexpensive, but I can't honestly recommend it as a purchase.

Sony ICF-CD814 AM/FM Stereo Clock Radio with CD Player, White Review

Sony ICF-CD814 AM/FM Stereo Clock Radio with CD Player, White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I did a fair amount of research both online and in local stores to find the best CD alarm clock for my money. Most of them seemed either way to expensive or cheaply made. As soon as I saw and tested out this unit, however, I knew it was a winner. Now after having purchased it and used it for a week or two I'm really very satisfied. This unit is built to last and has surprisingly "big" sound for its size. The CD player doesn't hum or whir loudly, the display is nice and big and the features are pretty easy to use.

A couple features that I don't think you'll find out about by reading the spec. chart are as follows:

-You can set both of the alarms to CD (which many other models boasting dual alarms won't allow) and even to the same track. The second alarm just overrides the first if it's still going.

-Buzzer alarm doesn't get progessively louder but does get progressively faster, which is nice.

-Snooze button works in 10 min. increments.

-CD lid is not spring loaded and must be opened and closed manually (which was actually one reason I liked this model, seeing as how nearly all of the other models seemed to have flimsy and often very slow opening mechanisms).

-Display can be seen fairly well even from an angle (which was a problem found with various other models).

Barbie Floweroake BAR502 Sing-a-long CD Player with Dual Mircophone Review

Barbie Floweroake BAR502 Sing-a-long CD Player with Dual Mircophone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this for my daughter so she could sing to her favorite Hanna Montana songs that we have downloaded. It is cute, the microphones allow the user to sing along and the voice that comes over the cd sounds good. The overall sound isn't great but for a 6-year old, this is not a huge issue. BIG PROBLEM: It won't play cds that have been burned by my computer! It SAYS in the description that it will play CD-Rs and CD-RW discs but in the owners manual it actually has a disclaimer that it won't play some discs "depending on the software used to burn the audio cd." It claims this is not a problem with the unit. Well, it is a problem. I have tried burning cds at different speeds and even went out and purchased special audio cds. I have cds that I have burned that work in the stereo, the car, other cd players. Not this one! For the price, it better play every CD I have. I'm either going to have to purchase audio cds from the store (duplicating songs I have already downloaded) or, take the stinking thing back. Merry Christmas.

Tivoli Audio PAL (Portable Audio Laboratory) AM/FM Radio, Black Review

Tivoli Audio PAL AM/FM Radio, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There are as many classes of radios out there as there are people who listen to them. The first thing that comes to mind if you see this radio online is "Why $150 for a three-knob radio?"Most consumers expect digital tuning, stereo sound, and lots of lights and buttons for this price point. This radio's price is justified by what's inside.Let's talk about what this unit is.

The Tivoli iPAL is a portable AM/FM radio that is powered by an internal (and customer replaceable) nickel metal hydride battery. It includes an earphone jack, an auxilliary input jack and external power jack. There is a telescoping rod antenna for FM reception and a built-in ferrite coil for AM.The controls are simple: a volume control, a band selector with OFF position and a tuning control. There is also a green LED indicator light that tells you when the radio is on and the charging/discharging state of the battery. The controls have a very high quality feel to them and are easy to operate. The knobs fit firmly and are not loose or flimsy as on many lower priced radios. The tuning knob has a 5:1 ratio reduction gear which moves the dial pointer more slowly with respect to the tuning knob. This makes fine tuning easier. The cabinet is made of very solid and rigid plastic. The whole unit has a weighty feel and a sturdiness that most radios lack at any price. One gets the impression that daily use will not wear this unit out.It has a very tidy appearance. There are no projecting parts other than the controls. The rod antenna folds down into a groove in the back of the cabinet so it is totally invisible when not in use. There are no fake aesthetic features like on many boomboxes that are designed to make it look like something more than it is.This radio is marvelously understated and does not draw attention to itself or make garish statements about the person carrying it.There is no handle as such. One carries the set by gripping the two indentations on either side of the cabinet.A carrying case is available which makes toting it around easier.

Performance is where this radio really surprises. One might expect the sound to be cheap and tinny but once switched on, this radio fills the room with a sound reminiscent of the vacuum tube table sets of the forties. The sound is warm, rich and full of tonal range.Music comes through with round base tones and sparkling highs.Spoken word broadcasts are clear without being harsh.Voices are deep without being boomy. This sound quality is equally present through headphones so there is no tuned port trickery going on.The circuitry really does sound this good.

RF performance is good too.The field effect transistors in the tuning circuit coupled with a precise AFC (automatic frequency control) mean that Fm stations lock in easly and do not drift.AM reception is excellent even in low signal areas. The tuner is sensitive and selectivity is very good. The built-in speaker is high fidelity mono however, when you insert a headset, the FM reception is in stereo.Stereo separation is very wide and static free. Some reviewers hav commented about the lack of volume on the PAL.I find this not to be the case.I can get sufficient volume for talk radio listening by setting the volume control at one-quarter turn. This radio has as much volume as any portable radio with a speaker this size (2-1/2").It is not a boombox or a home stereo. One's expectations must be reasonable.

The model I am reviewing is called the iPAL because it has a color scheme to complement the iPod MP3 player. The only difference between the iPAL and the PAL radios is the iPAL includes a stereo patch cable for connecting your iPod, CD player or similar device and the cabinet bears no rubberised coating. The PAL radios are offered in eight different colors, have a rubberised coating on the cabinet body and do not include the stereo patch cable although all units have the auxilliary input jack.

Final thoughts:This is an elegant, uniquely styled, high performance portable radio. It is intended for those who love radio as a technology as well as a medium. In leu of bells and whistles it features superior performance through the engineering of Henry Kloss and a build quality that is seldom found in any portable audio product. The Tivoli iPAL is not intended for the masses who judge value on price alone but for the discriminating lover of radio who admires the perfect blend of form and function.

Now you can enjoy Tivoli Audio's Model One's trademark sound quality and reception outdoors with the PAL Portable Audio Laboratory AM/FM Radio. Its 2.5" magnetically shielded driver and rubberized cabinet are weather resistant, so your PAL can keep you company by the pool or the patio. Its environmentally-friendly rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride battery pack has no memory and fully charges in about 3 hours, providing up to 16 hours of cordless playback. The clever little green LED serves as both a power and battery status indicator. Features include a geared-down 5:1ratio analog tuning dial for accurate tuning and an auxiliary input to connect an iPod, MP3 player, or portable CD player for exceptional portable playback. It also plays MP3 files wirelessly when transmitted from your MP3 player via the Griffin iTrip or Belkin FM transmitter. It includes a stereo headphone output for private listening (headphones not included), or can be used as a recording output, or to use the PAL as a high-quality outboard tuner with your home audio system. The Henry Kloss designed tuner features Automatic Frequency Control (AFC) which locks on to the center of the station for best reception and lowest distortion, while the adjustable telescoping FM antenna extends and rotates for improved FM reception (there is also a built-in AM antenna). PAL includes rubber gasket covered i/o ports to keep sand and water out of the unit and plated hardware to withstand the elements. It includes an AC adapter for home use and for the built in battery recharging system. An optional carry bag is also available to take your PAL on the go.

Sirius SDSP5V1 Sportster 5 Dock and Play Radio with PowerConnect Review

Sirius SDSP5V1 Sportster 5 Dock and Play Radio with PowerConnect
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Good radio, easy to install. The Pros: can change colors for display, however, display picture is the same (with Howard Stern looming in the background).Comes with remote, which can be handy, depending on where you install the radio.Easy to see display during the day and at night, even with polarized glasses (some reviewers stated that this is not so).For reference, The Xact one I had before this had a blue display which was close to impossible to see during the day, in particular with polarized sunglasses. The Cons: the FM transmitter is a lot weaker than the one from my previous radio (Xact).Activation:The legendary bad SIRIUS customer service sure was confirmed trying to activate this radio.I bought this as the replacement for my old radio which stopped working correctly. All I needed SIRIUS to do was deactivate my old radio and activate this one.It took about 1.5 hours to get this fairly straightforward task accomplished, mostly because I was put on hold several times for what felt forever.Best tip I can give: IF YOU BUY A NEW RADIO AND WANT TO REPLACE YOUR OLD ONE WITH IT, CHOOSE 'CANCEL SERVICE' WHEN YOU CALL SIRIUS.Otherwise, you will experience the same odyssey I went through (I chose "CHANGE SERVICE"):You first get transferred to Bangalore (I assume) where you are told that they CANNOT swap your two radios (i.e. cancel one, activate the other). They WILL tell you that you need to first activate your new one, which (of course) they are very happy to help you with. They will try to upsell you (no surprise) and tell you that you have to pay an activation fee.And since I had two radios, I got a discount(lasting for how long it takes to cancel the other radio).I explained in the beginning what I wanted to do, but of course they just go through their script. After the activation I requested to connect me to the 'department' to cancel my other radio. Of course I was put at the end of the waiting queue, after a few minutes my connection was lost, so I called again and chose the "CANCEL SERVICE" option. After about another 20 min of waiting, I was connected to the US service site and told the person that I needed to cancel service on a radio. After logging in to my account the person noticed that I had two radios, so I explained what I wanted to do.The good news is that the person got upset about how this was handled and talked to her supervisor (again I was put on hold). She then told my that my activation fee for the other radio would get reimbursed and that my old radio was cancelled.I hope that this radio will last a few years so I don't have to deal with their customer service any time soon...

UPDATE: as of today (12 Nov2010) I still have not received my promised refund for the activation.

This dock is the real thing. It was very easy to set-up and works great with my Denon 1909 stereo receiver. Before you purchase this item, do some research and make sure that you will be able to receive the Sirius satellite signal.I currently live in Cleveland and had a tough time acquiring a signal because all of my windows face to the north (meanwhile the signal is coming from the south). After playing around with the antenna for a while I was able to get a signal. So far...so good.

Myine Electronics IR001 WiFi Internet Radio Adaptor Review

Myine Electronics IR001 WiFi Internet Radio Adaptor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The press release from Myine Electronics states "Myine's Ira Wireless Internet Radio is designed to harness the universe of radio broadcasts available on the Internet and to allow user enjoyment anywhere a wireless internet connection, a speaker system and power sources are available." And that pretty well sums it up - and it does a great job at it too!

The general point of the unit is to not only give you access to the world of internet streaming radio and podcasts, but to do it easily, quickly, and without having to know a whole lot about what's going on with your network or connections. "There is a lack of good products available for people who are not tech savvy or just busy," said Jake Sigal, Principal and Founder of Myine Electronics. "Ira doesn't have any unnecessary bells and whistles, and sets up automatically right out of the box without a computer. We believe that with potentially confusing electronics, less is more."

When you first break the Ira out of the box, you'll see that it comes with the unit itself, a power cable, and a remote. It relies on WiFi being available to access the internet, and this is the first caution I would give potential buyers - make sure you have WiFi in your home, and that it is strong in the area you intend to put the Ira. The Ira seems very sensitive to interference and distance, so don't expect it to work as consistently and quickly as your laptop card does.

After plugging it in to the power and a set of speakers or a receiver, the next thing you'll need to do is configure it to access that WiFi broadcast. Although the Ira is geared towards `low-tech' users, it will definitely take some knowledge of networking and network configuration (plus a fair amount of patience) if you have any security enabled. Although it picks up the SSID if you are broadcasting that, and will tell you what type of security or encryption protocol, you'll need to be able to enter the passcode. If this is a WEP secure connection, this means you'll need to use the arrows on the remote and a pseudo keyboard on the screen to plunk out the 16 digits/characters/symbols - and unfortunately the Ira will not save incorrect configurations meaning you'll have to do it all again if you get one of the numbers wrong! It saves it if you get it right, so this may not be a big deal, particularly once you're past it.

Once you've got it all set up, you really start seeing the value and power of this unit. Users can filter by location or genre, and there are literally thousands of stations available. There are you're your typical shoutcast internet only stations, but also streaming live stations from around the globe. You've also got access to podcasts (including yours truly) and audio presentations, though you may find some of the more obscure ones missing. Myine selects the podcasts and stations that it will display through some mechanism that wasn't revealed to me. They did add podcasts that I requested (e.g., TechTalk on WRLR) without any questions or hesitation however, so I don't see this as a big hit.

If you're familiar at all with listening to radio or streaming audio on your laptop or desktop, you'll "get" this product immediately. What's really neat about it for me is how portable it is - I can listen to tunes up in my bedroom, then take the little unit downstairs to our porch outside, plug it into some speakers there and keep listening - without having to drag my laptop with it's rather junky soundcard all over the place! It's even small enough to throw in a jacket pocket and take to someone else's house to show off.

One area for future development and a feature that I really missed on the Ira is the lack of song information. Most stations broadcast the track and artist info with the song, but oddly the Ira unit does not display it. You can get a lot of other streaming and audio info, just nothing about the current track playing. The Ira software does have the capability to get updated over the wifi connection you use, so I would expect to see this fixed in a later release.

Overall Rating - 3 out of 5 Chips. It's a fantastic little product and idea, with portability and ease-of-use in the forefront of internet connected audio players (plus the benefit of not paying for XM or other similar options!). The lack of song tagging and weak reception strength make it just a little tougher to use than it should be however, and drops it down a notch. The price point is a touch high but still definitely within reach at around $130.

Philips Revolution Motorized Portable Speaker Dock for iPhone/iPod Review

Philips Revolution Motorized Portable Speaker Dock for iPhone/iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It seems that iPod/iPhone speaker docks are a hot item, and every company that has ever produced a magnet has decided to jump on the bandwagon. Of course, the competition is great for consumers. But a unit like this can be difficult to judge without actually playing with it. I have to admit, the concept of a motorized dock that rotates my iPhone for video viewing like some contraption out of 2001: A Space Odyssey was intriguing to me. And the price isn't that much more than a normal non-rotating speaker dock.

Well, as so often happens with those daydreams of having the outright COOLEST (fill in the blank) EVER MADE, reality fell pretty far short. Not that this is a bad dock necessarily, but...

Okay, let's talk about it.

===== Appearance =====

It's a pretty slick looking box, no doubt about it. The blue LED ring is noticeable but not distracting, and the face has clean lines and a high-tech minimalist feel. When rotated to movie viewing mode, the LED ring fades to white. The LED ring light is defeatable via one of the buttons. There are 5 low-profile buttons on top and a power jack on the back, along with a line in jack.

The manufacturer's photos are deceiving -- they did a good job making the unit look thin, but this is not the case. It's several inches deep, which is a mixed blessing. You might be disappointed in its size after looking at the photos, but the depth of the unit does allow Philips to utilize the space for improved bass performance.

Finally, the piece that the phone/iPod attaches to sticks out a bit more than the product photos suggest. It's not as deceiving as the depth, but worth a mention.

Speaking of the dock portion...

===== Motorized Dock =====

Some people are going to want to buy this unit for this feature. And I'll admit, it does have a certain 'cool' factor to it. The motor is fast, smooth and quiet, and the effect is pretty neat when combined with the LED ring fading from blue to white.

Sadly, it's just not worth anything in real-world terms. It's cool that you can use the remote to rotate the screen, but....Question: What are you NOT doing if you're far enough away to be using the remote?Answer: Watching a video on your iPhone. Nobody watches a video on their iPod/iPhone from 4 or more feet away. With a light press on the motorized dock, it will swing one way or the other for you, without the need for the remote. So, it may be useful if you're holding the speaker dock in your arms and watching a video. But then, it's just too bulky to be comfortable for that purpose, like holding a small baby (albeit less squishy).I'd rather just use headphones, or *gasp* the built-in iPhone speaker just for the convenience factor.

The unit will charge your iPod/iPhone, as long as its plugged into the wall. I didn't think it did at first, because the first time I plugged my iPod in it didn't charge. Every time after that, though, it did charge.I'm not quite sure why that happened, but it seems I'm not the only one that happened to.

===== Remote =====

The remote is pretty nice, much more solid than some others and with an attractive gloss black finish. It has the standard buttons, plus a bass boost toggle button and the rotate button. It takes a CR2032 battery, and while it's not as thin as the remote for the Altec Lansing iMT620 inMotion Classic Portable iPod Dock with Rechargeable Battery and FM Tuner, there is still a port in the back for storing the remote. Although, the only thing holding the remote in there is a rather weak magnet.I haven't had it fall out yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

===== Sound Quality =====

This is the big thing, isn't it?It doesn't matter how many cool gadgets they cram into one of these things, if it sounds like Colin Meloy is singing from the bottom of a well, the dock fails to serve its primary purpose. Well in this case, it's a mixed bag. The low frequency output is pretty outstanding -- certainly better than the aforementioned Altec Lansing iMT620. Of course, this is to be expected, since the Altec Lansing is actually as thin as they claim (roughly a third the depth of this Philips unit). Mid-range and high frequencies, however, are far better on the Altec Lansing. But keep in mind that I compared them side by side to notice this. When I first took the Philips out of the box, I played it by itself without any reference and it sounded great to me. Additionally, I believe the Philips has better sound when you're listening from a distance. When the unit is farther away from me, it has the power needed to push the sound to wherever I am. The Altec Lansing can do this, but the sound starts to get a bit tinny and thin at a distance.

===== Features =====

The features are all pretty much as stated above, but I want to give an example of what you are (or are not) getting for the money.Again, I will use the Altec Lansing for comparison since I have one sitting right here.

Altec Lansing iMT620: Current price is about $40 less than the Philips dock. Includes an FM tuner with telescoping antenna, a backlit LCD display (mostly useless but shows your volume level which is nice), has (in my opinion) superior sound quality, has a much smaller footprint, and has a built-in rechargeable battery that lasts for several hours of constant use. The port feels more flimsy, like it would be easy to break with the iPhone/iPod merely "balanced" on its port with no other support.

Philips Revolution: More expensive, no radio functionality, no display, takes up more space, and requires 8 AA batteries if you don't have a place to plug it in. But it does have a motorized dock that you'll never use. Has a 'cradle' that the iPhone/iPod slides into, making it feel much more sturdy feeling than the Altec Lansing. The cradle comes with several different attachments for different sizes of iPod, so you're sure to have one that fits.

===== Documentation =====

Ha! What documentation?! It's actually pretty funny. The "instruction manual" is a folded piece of paper with pictures on it. They are mainly two-frame cartoons, in the pattern:

Frame 1: Finger next to a button
Frame 2: "Sound" lines come out of the dock.

That finger in each first frame points at a different button each time, but all they ever do is make lines come out of the dock. It's comical, and I guess you get the idea. You really probably don't need instructions for something this simple anyway. But if you buy this dock, definitely check out the documentation. Then consider how much the technical writers over at Philips probably get paid to do their jobs.

===== Conclusion =====

I don't dislike this dock, but I'm not in love with it. The motor feature that seems to be the major selling point is questionable in its usefulness, and there are other smaller units with more features for less money. On the other hand, if you really want to watch videos on your iPhone in landscape format and you have to use a portable speaker dock and you don't mind supplying it with enough AA batteries to power the city of Cleveland for two days and you don't mind having to cradle something the size of a loaf of bread in your arms to do it, then this dock may be for you.

Okay, the color-fading LED ring is more fun than it should be. So it's got that too.

Altec Lansing XM3120 Docking/Speaker System for Audiovox Express and Delphi Roady XT Review

Altec Lansing XM3120 Docking/Speaker System for Audiovox Express and Delphi Roady XT
Average Reviews:

I was uncertain at first if the quality of sound from this small system would do the XM radio justice. I was very impressed after I hooked up the system and heard the quality sound radiate from the Altec system.
I decided on Altec due to its size (bigger Boomboxes are available but space hogs). Its stylish design fits nicely on my bookshelf and it's clean design goes well with any decor.
One thing purchasers need to be aware of is that the antenna needs to be placed close..really close, to a window to receive the satellite signal. I have'nt found anything negative to say about this system, well done Altec Lansing. I'm giving it 4 stars simply for the fact I would have liked to seen more user controls on the system.

I bought this Chinese made radio quickly, without any research because I needed a radio to take to a construction job I was heading to. This radio is about the size of a book and fairly light weight even with batteries. Overall, I think this radio is overpriced by about $5.

What I like (pros):
The tuner and volume controls are analog wheels on the side of the unit. I prefer analog tuning and volume control because I feel that I have more control over it and can get exactly what I want. The volume control is good and does not dramatically change the volume with subtle wheel rotation.

The tuner scale if fairly accurate on FM and on the lower 1/2 of the AM band. The upper 1/2 of the AM band is not too accurate (showing 1080 AM as somewhere around 1600 AM). The literature doesn't specify the frequency range for this radio; however, I was able to receive the local Smooth Jazz station at 87.7 FM and there were broadcasts that I could receive even below that frequency. The FM appears to stretch up to 108 MHz which is an average range for FM. AM seems to go from about 530 (or below) to 1710 or so; an average range for AM too.

It has a digital clock with a date (month/day) function. Pushing the Mode button on top displays the date for 1 second. There is also a yellow button to turn on the backlight for the clock. The light is a soft indigo blue lasting approximately 8 seconds.

The other thing that I REALLY like about this radio is that the power cord is permanently attached to the radio (no wall wart adapter) and can be folded and stowed in the batter compartment. This 6 volt radio can also work on 4 AA size batteries. I don't know how long the batteries last as I have always used this radio with AC power.

What I DON'T like (cons):
First off, weather is a very important part of life here in Alaska. The NOAA weather service has stations broadcasting here that can be heard from nearly anywhere in the state (in my area on 162.550 MHz). This radio which boasts instant weather reception (with a button press) does not pick up ANY weather broadcasts on ANY of NOAA's frequencies. Once the weather button is depressed, you can fine tune the weather receiver between 162.400 - 162.550 MHz. Even using the weather tuning dial (located on the back of the radio), I was unable to hear ANY weather transmissions--only static. The telescopic antenna was fully extended and I moved the antenna and the radio to different positions to try to receive a NOAA broadcast but I only received static. For comparison, I have a handheld, programmable scanner in the same room as this radio and it can receive the NOAA station without any trouble. The BIG selling point for the radio beyond simply being a portable AM/FM radio is that it should receive weather. It does not. Perhaps, I have a faulty unit. For this price (and quality) it's not worth my time to bother returning it or trouble shooting it. Considering the weather feature is a major selling point for this radio, the quality control department should have discovered this problem before it left the factory. Either Emerson quality control is poor or this product is poor. Either way, the weather function on these radios is not dependable.

With the unit turned OFF, if you depress the weather button, the weather function turns on at FULL VOLUME and you cannot turn it down. If the unit is ON, then you can adjust the volume of the weather function to your liking.

Speaking of volume, this has about a 2-1/2 inch speaker and it distorts above 2/3 volume. So you can't get very loud with this radio without distortion. My Eton FR-250 was much louder.

Overall reception is mediocre. I detected static and/or distortion on many of the stations on both AM and FM. All but the most powerful stations had some level of static. Also, this isn't a great AM (or FM) receiver as it only received the closest and most powerful stations in the area. There is minimal tuner drift requiring some slight re-tuning occasionally. For the most part, it holds the stations you tune in. My Eton FR-250 received AM stations from roughly 200 miles away. This radio only received AM stations within about a 12 mile radius.

There is an earphone jack on the side of the unit. This is an EARphone jack and not a HEADphone jack. The audio only comes out of the left ear piece. This is the 21st century! Aren't we beyond this yet? Why are electronics manufacturers still making radios with left channel only mono? It shouldn't be that difficult or expensive to send mono to both channels. This very outdated feature is an annoying disappointment.

This radio is light weight and the switches are dials on the front that you have to grab and twist. I have this radio sitting on a counter top and I always have to operate it with two hands because it's so light and has a poor center of gravity (more of the weight is at the top of the radio). Also, the power and band dials are rather wide (not narrow enough to easily "pinch" with the finger and thumb) so when I grab a dial to turn it (power or band) the radio slides away from me so I'm forced to hold the radio with one hand while I operate a switch with the other. With a radio this shape and design, it may have been smarter to put the controls on the TOP of the unit rather than the front.

If this radio was lost or stolen, I would not buy another one. For the price range, I think there may be better options available--in hindsight, I would have rather bought the Sony ICF38 Portable AM/FM Radio (Black); however, I realize that radios are expensive to begin with and an increase in quality often brings an increase in price. Even with all the mp3 and computerized technology available today, the cost of radios is continuing to rise every few months. Overall, I would not really recommend this radio for most applications. DO NOT buy this radio if you need weather service broadcasts--that feature simply does not function.

iLuv i277BLK iPod Alarm Clock Audio System with Bluepin (Black) Review

iLuv i277BLK iPod Alarm Clock Audio System with Bluepin
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is really a cool product. I was able to pair with my Mobile(HTC TyTN II), Headphone/Headset (Lubix) very easily. It got paired in the first try. The instructions are pretty clear in the manual. Music is good for the small size, Bass is less, naturally. Can't compare with Bose. The music from my Phone through the BluePin on this is really good. The Blupin Receiver was able to receive music till 15-20 feet clearly, after that it breaks. I was able to FF/RR/Stop, Adjust volume from my phone.

As a Bluetooth transmitter, it works great. I connected my TV Audio output to 277 using the line-in and change the mode to AUX with BluePin in TX mode and used a Lubix Bluetooth Head Phone/Set. The transmission was awesome.

Tested with iPod/iPhone and this works as stated. The snooze button in the front is good one. Even we can switch off the display using this. Radio works as stated. Weight less. Looks great. Has a remote but not senstive.

Actually I was searching for a Bluetooth Transmitter for my TV. The Sony and Motorola were quoted @ Amazon for $60. I thought it's pretty costly for the simple Bluetooth Transmitter of class 1. So searched the net and found this for same price. So now I have a Transmitter with multiple functionality.

So this is an All in one model.

Pros

1) Receiver for my Phone to listen music
2) Wireless Transmitter to my TV, so I can watch the TV without disturbing anybody using my Bluetooth head phone
3) Listening to iPod/Radio in Wireless mode with full control.

If you read the manual twice , it easy to understand everything.

Cons

1) The cons, I would say is that it's not Bluetooth2(has 300Ft of range) only Bluetooth1 (30 Ft range)
2) No Equalizer/Pre-set for music.
3) Remote can be made better.

Update - Nov 26th 2010

Apple Hi-Fi Home Stereo for iPod (White) Review

Apple Hi-Fi Home Stereo for iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It is obvious that Apple made a mistake claiming the Ipod Hi Fi would replace an Audiophile's home system. That claim has opened them up for criticism but, that is the only thing that can be criticized. The Hi Fi system is what it is - and that is a pretty amazing little device.I am not an expert, nor am I a novice in the art of high fidelity.I am, however, a Musician who has held Music and sound quality close to my heart for many, many years.I went to the Apple store with my AAC compressed 4 gig Nano and plugged into the system.Honestly, the sound at the store did not "blow me away"; I was in a busy store with much background noise.Realizing that the environment has much to do with sound quality, I took a chance and purchased it.I had dismissed most of the reviews that I read as sour grapes (for some reason) against Apple from people who do not own the system - had to be, some of the reviews were written before the system was even available!I was right; when I got this home and listened to it I was impressed.I do not listen to music that has that "wall' of sound (i.e. power chords, screaming vocals, retarded drums) I listen to music that has dimension (i.e. Jazz, Funk, Fusion).I wanted an audio device that would allow me to control my Ipod via remote, hold most of my favorite tunes, not fill my living room up with audio equipment, and be loud and clear enough to surround me with un-distorted sound. This system fills that bill.My one complaint is:you need to crank it up a bit for it to "come alive".At loud volumes, I find the tone control set to treble boost works best and at lower volumes set it to bass boost, meaning you need to re-adjust it upon volume changes. One other point, some of the lower end tunes on my Ipod sometimes distort when listening through the ear buds. This system seems to clean that up when cranking through the system. The added bonus being that I can use it in my backyard.
It is expensive? Yes.It is worth it? Yes, but keep in mind, it is what it is.

Product Description:
Fill your home with sound, not stereo components. Keep your music collection at your fingertips, not in countless CD cases. Change the way you experience digital music. iPod Hi-Fi delivers crystal-clear, audiophile-quality sound in a clean, compact design. Hear, hear.
Where did the stereo go?
Just slide your iPod(1) into the built-in Universal Dock to turn on and tune in to digital music as you've never heard it before. From pumping bass to bright treble, iPod Hi-Fi delivers natural, room-filling sound. Close your eyes and you'd think you were listening to a huge stack of speakers. But iPod Hi-Fi measures just 17.0" x 6.6" x 6.9."
Virtuoso performance
As versatile as it is compact, iPod Hi-Fi incorporates thoughtful touches that make playing your music pure pleasure. Use the included Apple Remote to control music playback from anywhere in the room. Charge your iPod through the iPod Hi-Fi dock while you play music. Or take your show on the road courtesy of D-cell battery(2) power. All that makes iPod Hi-Fi pretty extraordinary. Just like iPod.
Rock-solid enclosure
The innovative design of iPod Hi-Fi transforms consumer-grade materials into the ideal enclosure for high-fidelity sound. The high-end sound of iPod Hi-Fi pours out of a double-walled plastic shell redesigned for maximum stiffness to prevent vibration and resonance--two major causes of sonic imperfection. And airtight sealing allows voluminous, unobstructed sound, effectively preventing buzzing and clatter.
The right balance
iPod Hi-Fi features three speaker cones custom designed to provide balanced sound across the frequency range. The result of numerous rigorous acoustic tests, this design delivers room-filling stereo imaging. The two 80 mm wide-range cones are set in dedicated chambers and isolated on the front plate, providing mid and high frequencies that sound vivid and bright. The natural bass of iPod Hi-Fi is generated by a 130 mm woofer. Thanks to the airtight sealing, the low frequencies are enriched inside the enclosure and then directed via tuned tubes through ports in the front.
Energy bar
No need to find a place to hide an unsightly power brick, as iPod Hi-Fi houses all power components internally. Or run iPod Hi-Fi on six D-cell batteries(2). Either way, it plays your music with big, warm sound. In DC mode, custom electronics manage the energy to enhance battery life and sound, even adjusting volume as necessary. And iPod Hi-Fi will charge your iPod from its batteries when the iPod runs low.
Look who's talking
Seamless integration means more than just plopping your iPod into a set of speakers. That's why iPod Hi-Fi actually communicates with your iPod. Just connect your iPod to the built-in Universal Dock and a simple, intuitive Speakers menu(3) lets you personalize iPod Hi-Fi to match your music. Take tone control, for starters. You can choose settings like "Normal," "Treble Boost," or "Bass Boost" to produce tones perfectly suited to your surroundings. You can also choose to display album art in a large, easily viewable format while iPod Hi-Fi plays. Set the backlight to remain on while playing and that album art positively pops off your iPod.
Take charge
iPod Hi-Fi not only plays nice with any iPod(4) using a dock adapter, it charges the iPod, too. Just drop your iPod into the built-in dock and you can play music and charge your iPod all at once. When plugged into an AC outlet, iPod Hi-Fi fully charges the iPod battery. And if you're running iPod Hi-Fi on D-cell batteries(2), it even provides your iPod with a charge so you can still play on the go.

    iPod sold separately
    D-cell batteries sold separately
Speakers menu and Tone Control only available on iPod nano and iPod with video
iPod models without a dock connector require an audio cable, sold separately

Emerson iTone iP550 Portable Stereo System for iPods (Silver) Review

Emerson iTone iP550 Portable Stereo System for iPods
Average Reviews:

I at first had bought the iLive product and had to return 2 of them because they didn't work (AC plug didn't work)

This one has worked great for a month and has smart features like not charging the ipod when running on batteries. It's missing the CD player the iLive had but hey, if you have an ipod, why do you need a CD player? It's also about 1/10th of the weight of the iLive. This one is very portable and music quality is great for a unit this size.

Only downsides to this unit are nowhere to store the remote control and limited features on the remote (switch bands, volume, skip songs, power) but other than that, it's been a great unit....I'm only sorry I didn't get it earlier.

Jensen 3-Speed Stereo Turntable with AM/FM Stereo Radio - JTA-220 (Silver) Review

Jensen 3-Speed Stereo Turntable with AM/FM Stereo Radio - JTA-220
Average Reviews:

We have bought this turntable for listening to our Old CCM collection.
It has a good sound, the internal speakers are just enough to give a nice listening pleasure.

Internal Speakers
Speakers output
Headphone jack
Radio
Volume Control
Power on Switch
That's it.
Does not have bells and whistles but it is a basic Turntable with a nice sound...

I plugged this unit to a sound card and recorded our rare (out of print) LPs collection to my Computer... just to have and keep the songs safe.
Yes... you do not need an USB turntable to record on your computer.
Just plug the "headphone jack" of this unit to the "Line in" on your sound card, then download a Free software like "Audacity" and start recording your LPs. Easy!

I recommend this unit for basic "good sounding" music playing and for LPs to Computer recording...

Nice!

COBY CX-CD109 RED Personal CD Player with Stereo Headphones Review

I would not recommend this product to anyone. My son
received this cd player for his 10th birthday as a
replacement for an old one. Within two weeks the head-
phones quit working. The unit skips with the slightest
movement, making it no fun and unusable to my son. If
you can believe it, the old cd player is actually more
usuable than this almost brand new Coby cd player. : (

I bought this for my 9 yr old daughter. I thought with the higher pixel count it would take a decent picture but not so. You could have twice the pixels and would still take a lousey picture because there is no image stablization software. Even if she holds it as still as possible we have a hard time getting a decent image.
