SIRIUS SV3-TK1 Stratus Plug-and-Play Satellite Radio Receiver with Car Kit Review

SIRIUS SV3-TK1 Stratus Plug-and-Play Satellite Radio Receiver with Car Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The kit itself is simple to install and setup took only a few minutes. However, the FM transmitter on the unit is not as good as previous units I've had as it only goes down to 88.1.I live near D.C. and it is almost impossible to find a frequency without something being transmitted on it.My old unit transmitted down to the low 87's and I had no trouble tuning in.It also seems like the transmitter is too week to transmit over even partial signals (a guess a compromise for the small size of it).So I ordered the FM Direct Adapter to see if that helps. It would have been nice if Sirius had included this in their car kit as anybody that lives near a city is likely to need it.

JVC KT-SR2000 Plug 'n' Play Sirius Satellite Radio Receiver Review

JVC KT-SR2000 Plug 'n' Play Sirius Satellite Radio Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Chose Sirius for content reasons, after shopping extensively for Sirius PNP receivers, chose the JVC unit for the following reasons:

-- small size "PDA style" -- can fit in your pocket
-- super bright/readable screen -- crisp 'red LED' on black background
-- wanted a second generation receiver from mfr who had first gen experience (JVC 2000 supersedes 1000)
-- reputation for very good antenna
-- rumor that soon-to-be release boombox will be superb

I was not disappointed.Installed in car with antenna on dash and experienced very few drop outs despite less than optimal antenna location.Did notice a bit of hiss with the integral FM modulator, so opted for direct connection to my "MP3" Aux input on the car stereo... beautiful sound with the direct connection.Screen indeed readable in bright sunlight.Channel/category switch on the unit a bit clunky (though buttons on remote are fine = "real buttons")... other than this I'm highly satisfied. The 18 presets on the unit more than enough for me and suction cup dash/window mount that comes with the car kit seems bulletproof and very tight (especially vs. double-stick tape approach with other units).Nice thing about the PDA form factor when used in the car is that it's easy to slip in your pocket if leaving the car in a theft-prone area.Unit runs warm but nowhere near as hot as I thought it might given other online comments.

Sirius programming seems a bit more oriented to older demographic vs. XM.I liked (1) extensive news including PBS/BBC/PRI/World, (2) reggae/tropical/vacation channels, (3) tighter music genres in general (vs. more thematic on XM)... and in 2006 am looking forward to Howard Stern's move from FM to Sirius.Only programming on XM not on Sirius that I miss is MSNBC.Also note that Sirius traffic/weather is slightly less convenient since they put two cities on each channel, cycling coverage through each.

Looking forward to getting the boombox for the JVC KT-SR2000 soon... this appears to be simple, clean aesthetically (would look ok at home) and has a bass-boost capability... a/c adapter and antenna with 20' cord included.

Delphi SA50000 XM SKYFi Radio Receiver Review

Delphi SA50000 XM SKYFi Radio Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The SA50000 is well-worth the money. It's a bit bulky compared to the Roady 2 but you have to remember that the Roady is for car audio use only. The SA50000 can be installed on a boombox/indoor unit or in the car so you get both functions with this receiver. When you buy this receiver, there are no accessories included except the remote. Use a C2032 battery to power the remote. So before you head out and buy this, don't forget to buy the battery. I had to open one of my old motherboards and pulled out the battery. I don't think it's mentioned on the packaging about what type of battery it uses. So I'm saving you all a headache and telling you. Ok let's start off with the installation. I bought a Delphi Boombox to hook up the receiver. To actually review this product, I would have to review the boombox as well cos without a boombox or car adaptor, this receiver is useless. So...installing the receiver is quite easy on the boombox. The boombox has a cradle that catches the receiver. Be careful not to force the receiver into the cradle mount. Just slide the receiver into the cradle. The contact pins should catch the receiver in the cradle, and then lightly push the receiver forward. Push the receiver on the top-most part of the device. Push the receiver until it clicks. To unseat the receiver, just push it again and it will make a faint click. Pull the receiver off gently.

Now, to activate. It's really a painless process. Make sure that the receiver is hooked up and seated properly in the boombox cradle. Ok, power-up the boombox and receiver.Just have your credit card ready, a pen, and a piece of paper. Once the receiver is powered-up, go to Radio ID channel. To switch channels, use the rotary dialer until it says Radio ID. It should give you the Radio ID number. Copy it and then activate it online. Activation fee via online is about $2.00 less than if you activate it over the phone. Once you get a message on the XMradio activation page, go back to your receiver and start looking for the channels, starting with channel 1,4,5,6,7, then 122. You can also use the number keys to switch channels. The ENTER key is that big button on the rotary dialer's hub. If after activating it, you don't get any sound from the channels I mentioned, please don't blow a gasket. Give it like about 30 mins. for the satellite to update your receiver. After about 30 minutes, you should be getting most if not all 120 channels.

Now the remote...well one thing is missing on the remote and that's the MENU key that's found on the receiver. Maybe it's somewhere on the remote but I haven't found it yet. Remote is fairly straightforward operation. As for the boombox, it comes with an antenna. It has a 20 ft. cable. I suggest you put the antennae close to a window in your house. It says to look for the southern part of the house to get best results. I didn't bother looking for itcos how many people here in US know exactly where the south part of their house is? Anyways, get the antenna on an elevated position and turn it towards the window. The receiver has a function that will tell you the signal strength of the satellite waves and the terrestrial repeater waves. You can access this by going to MENU and then scroll down to Antenna Setup. If you see four-bars filled for satellite and three bars filled for terrestrial, then you are GOOD TO GO. The boombox packs a wallop! The sound is crisp, tight, and powerful. I have it at level 20 volume and it's shaking my lounge. I don't know what the max volume is and I won't even try it. The boombox comes with a humongous sized power adapter to power your receiver and boombox. Overall, the SA50000 is a fantastic receiver, it's easy to install, activate, and it gives a nice clear sound and signal. My suggestion is buy SA50000 and keep it for home use only. If you want to have a satellite radio for the car, I suggest you get the Roady 2.

Audiovox SIR-PNP3 Sirius Satellite Radio Receiver Review

Audiovox SIR-PNP3 Sirius Satellite Radio Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love the SIR-PNP3 so much that I immediately bought a second one. And then a third one, two months later! The PNP3 is the 3rd generation of this Audiovox Sirius "shuttle" receiver, and SIRIUS and Audiovox have hit a grand slam home run with the PNP3. The display on the PNP3 is the brightest and clearest of any SIRIUS (or XM receiver) that I've seen. I haven't listened to AM or FM at all since I started my SIRIUS subscription.I use the Audiovox SIR-PNP3 both in the car and the home. The wireless FM transmitter is of high quality and mighty:You can set up the PNP3 in one room, and simultaneously listen to SIRIUS through any and all of your FM radio receivers located in nearby rooms, (at broadcast distances of upwards of 100 feet in my experience.) And, if you are someone who doesn't yet know much about satellite radio:SIRIUS is better than XM: Absolutely True!

Product Description:
Designed for use in the car, through your home stereo, and even in Audiovox's compatible boombox, the SIR-PNP3 Sirius plug-and-play tuner receives more than 120 streaming satellite radio stations, including stations with commercial-free music, talk, sports, and children's programming. Listeners will need an Audiovox home or car kit to use the tuner, but once equipped, they can transfer the tuner between the house and the car stereo as often as they like, negating the need to buy second and third receivers. The tuner is remarkably easy to use, with a large 2.5-by-1.38-inch amber backlit LCD screen that displays the artist info, song title, category, and time, along with a 0-9 number pad and a wireless remote that allow for direct channel access. Users can manually adjust the contrast and dimming level for better viewing, or they can set the display to Auto Dimmer so that it instinctively adjusts to the ambient light level. The receiver also includes a built-in FM transmitter that broadcasts satellite tunes through any FM radio--a bonus for people whose car stereos don't come with auxiliary inputs. Otherwise, most users will choose to connect the tuner (via one of the Audiovox kits) to a stereo's RCA jacks or 3.5 mm auxiliary input for better audio performance.
The SIR-PNP3 is equipped with a number of convenient user options. Most listeners will appreciate the 30 presets in three separate banks (A, B, and C), along with the preset scan function, which browses among the preset channels rather than perusing the entire station catalog. In addition, the receiver includes a preset list mode that displays the preset channels either one at a time or six at a time, with listings by channel name, artist, or song title. To save time, listeners can also directly access Sirius channels by their three-digit channel numbers rather than paging through the channel directory. Additional features include a Look Ahead function, which checks the current playlist of other channels without leaving your current station; an S-seek function that searches the Sirius signal for songs or artists that match your pre-determined favorites; and several time-based options, including an alarm clock, a sleep mode, and a program alert that automatically activates the radio and turns it to a specific program at a preset time.
The tuner measures 4.5 by 3 by 1.5 inches (W x H x D) and carries a one-year warranty on parts and labor. Listeners will need to purchase a compatible car kit, home kit, or boombox along with a subscription to Sirius to enjoy satellite radio programming through the tuner.
What's in the Box
SIR-PNP3 tuner, wireless remote control, two AA batteries, Sirius channel guide, silica gel desiccant packet, product registration card, user's manual.

Delphi SA10101 SKYFi2 XM Satellite Radio Receiver and Remote Control Review

Delphi SA10101 SKYFi2 XM Satellite Radio Receiver and Remote Control
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was lucky I found the skyfi 2 this past weekend at a local store. The Skyfi 2 is an improvement in the Skyfi 1 in many ways. The Skyfi 2 has better sound and can be played in your existing car and home boombox cradle. From the beginning you will notice the sound is louder on this one than it is on the skyfi 1.I don't have to cut the volume up as loud now on my boombox as I did with my skyfi 1.The Skyfi 2 also comes with a brighter light for viewing during sunny weather.I can actually see this now when the sun is bright in my car I can still read it.The skyfi 2 has a choice of 2 colors.Black on White which is recommended when driving in bright sunlight or White On Black which looks kind of blue and not as bright but you can still adjust the brightness on both colors in the menu screen. This thing is really bright at night unless you lower the brightness. The Skyfi 2 also has a sport and stock ticker. You can see sports scores or stocks scrolling under the artist and song info.I'm hoping Delphi will add weather as well to this. The skyfi 2 is the first reciever to feature extended titles. If you have the scroll on which is in the menu the song will start out at 16 characters but go to 30 something depending on song.Note the scroll for extended titles isn't the same thing as having the artist and song scroll across in big letters. The scroll for extended titles is in the menu you can cut it on or off it just scrolls the longer titles to extended ones. The song artist big letter scroll is in the display mode you can pick between this and other ways to see the song artist info. This makes the reciever look better similar to Sirius reciever. The skyfi 2 also has a unique feature. It has an Fm modulator inside the unit. When you put it in your car cradle it will turn on.You can cut it off in the menu if you want to but this thing has over 6-12 frequencies. It features the lower frequencies 88-89 and the higher ones 106-107.This thing sounds much better than my wired mod in my car. Also this unit features a record feature. You do nothing it automatically records from the time you cut it on.This is a first for an xmreciever. Also you could put 20 favorite stations in the skyfi 1 you can put 30 in this one. Here is a summery of this unit. Also you can view info 4 ways on the reciever. You can still activate it to scroll in big letters if your at a distance. You can have just the song and artist like the skyfi 1 featured,You can have artist, song and stocks or you can choose artist, song and sports.

Pro's
Extended Titles-This is the only xm reciever to feature this but it will eventually be available in newer models too.XM is just starting to get into listing more than 16 characters for artist and song.

Brighter Light for viewing in bright sunlight. It doesn't get washed out.

Stock Tickers and Sports Scores Note you must go into the menu and pick your favorite stocks and sports teams.

Better Sound

Built In Fm Modulator and it lets you choose over 6 frequencies. Also although xm recommends you buy the new car cradle it works fine with the old car cradle.

30 Presets features A,B and C were you can put at least 10 channels on each.

Pause and Record Feature-The Skyfi 2 automatically starts to record when you cut it on.You don't have to do anything not even pause. If you want to hear a song again that you liked real good or missed when you was away from the reciever you can just hit the reverse arrow. It can hold up to 30 minutes of songs. You can also go foward by hitting the foward arrow. If you want to hear live programming what is playing now just hold the foward arrow it will then beep and display live on the top.Note once you cut it off all memory will be lost. When you cut it back on it starts to record again from the first song. This is a great feature to have if your reciever is in the house and you have to go outside for something. When you come back in you can just push the back arrow and go back to the songs. And the recorded songs sound live you can't tell a difference in sound quality. You can also pause the music if you want to.

The Skyfi 2 features a clock. You can either view it in 12 or 24 hr time.

The Skyfi 2 can also alert you when your favorite artist or song is on.For example if your favorite artist on Sunny channel 24 is Percy Faith if your on another channel you will hear a beep when they play Percy Faith. You can put at least 10 favorite artist or songs in.

The Skyfi 2 is lighter than the Skyfi 1.Even thou their the same size the Skyfi 2 isn't as heavy as the Skyfi 1.

The Skyfi 2 comes with a remote.Note the skyfi 1's remote will also work on the skyfi 2 if you want to cut up or down the volume, change channel or put in numbers. The sky 2's remote has additionel keys and different batteries.

Cons
It doesn't feature a variety of colors for your mood like the roady 2 does.

Even thou it says you can pick it up on any Fm radio inside the house you can't.The Fm mod only works on the car cradle. It's not in the menu when it's on the boombox.

The sky 2 remote is heavier and takes 2 aa battaries instead of a long life lithium like the sky 1 remote. Also the sky 2 remote is slightley larger than the sky 1.

The skyfi 2 is worth the extra money.I highley recommend it.
I also recommend the protective satellite radio reciever case which is cheap to keep this in.It will protect the lcd screen from scratches.

Also Xm has an emergency channel on 247 which monitors tornadoes, hurricanes, volcanos, floods, blizzards etc.It came in handy this past summer with the Florida Hurricanes and this Fall with the eruption of Mount Saint Helens. They give evacuation routes, watches, warnings, school and business closings and other info. This is yet another reason to get xm.

There is an amplifier at the outside end of this cable. The compartment totally filled up with water after a few rain storms.I get no signal at all because of water damage.I had the connector oriented correctly accourding to the instructions, but it still filled with water. The lid eventually fell off...

I'm going to buy another cable because I need it.This time, I will seal the amplifier box with silicon glue. You should do the same thing before it rains.

Delphi Sa 10034 Skyfi Cd Audio System Review

Delphi Sa 10034 Skyfi Cd Audio System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The mere thought of a combination satellite radio/cd/radio boombox delights the ears. I needed a CD player/radio AND wanted to be able to listen to my XM radio, so I gave this boombox a try. What a disappointment. The main problem is the background noise on the XM radio. The faint high-pitched hum only occurs when listening to the XML radio. The CD player and radio sound fine, however, CDs skip and sometimes hesitate to play. Removing the XM radio takes some practice. You snap the unit into the adapter, which is fine, but to remove it, you have to push on the radio until the unit slides forward. That was my experience.

If you don't already own a Delphi XM radio, consider the Audiophase satellite radio Skybox with AM/FM/CD/MP3 player. Or you could add a receiver to an XM radio family plan,[...].

Pros:
- Radio and cd player fidelity
- Intuitive buttons

Cons:
- Background noise
- Skipping CDs
- Awkward way to insert and remove XM radio
- Garish design

Audiovox SIR-BB3 Sirius Satellite Radio Boombox Review

Audiovox SIR-BB3 Sirius Satellite Radio Boombox
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Here is the new and updated version of the SIR-BB2!Since they do not make the BB2 anymore, this is what you want if you have the PNP3 as it'll allow you to take the boombox anywhere!Note, the PNP2 and other Sirius receivers will not work with this, only the PNP3.

Improvements include a better and lounder volume so that if you're outside you'll hear the program much better! The volume is adjusted by either pushing a down or up button. Also it's not as "thick" as the BB2.

Plug in some D Cell batteries and you can go portable with it!

It includes an adapter to plug in, and 20 wire and antenna for reception.Note many with Sirius have to put the antenna just outside their window facing the appropriate direction (read directions). And everyone can get reception, it's just a matter of proper antenna placement.

You may want to look into getting the 50 foot Sirius antenna extension cable (see above for item information) to connect both antenna wire and boombox. You can connect up to 2 of them making a total of 125 feet of antenna wire.

And Sirius lineup, you'll never be able to find something you cannot listen to!And with Sirius you also can listen to Sirius online FREE when you signup!Sirius has 65 commercial free music channels, TWO NPR channels, Talk channels (Patriot, Right, Left, Air America, Talk Central, OutQ) and spanish along with Radio Classics (Lone Ranger, Suspense, Dragnet, etc.) and more! Exclusive include Howard Stern starting January 2006, Maxim Radio talk (Mens Magazine) channel, Eminem Shade 45 channel (uncut hip-hop), over 40 NBA games per week, NHL, Tony Hawks Domolition Radio, Barclays English League Soccer, All Division I Mens Basketball.

The trick to finding what's on and when is to look online at the channel lineup for times or listen to Sirius information channel 184 or better yet, stay tuned to the channel you like!

Sports, Sirius is the only one that has a 24/7 NFL channel that has each and every NFL game including your hometown broadcast feed!NASCAR will be exclusive to Sirius starting in 2007!

I challenge anyone to find this cheaper than Amazon with free shipping and no tax.It won't happen!

So there it is, if you want to use the PNP3 in the house, this is what you need!
