jWIN JXCD8700 4-CD/MP3 CD Vertical-Loading Hi-Fi System Review

While the look of the system is stylish, and does offer the feature of being wall-mounted I found the operation less than satisfactory.It is very easy to assemble.I was shocked at how loud the motor sounds when opening and closing the disk covers.Though, initially I figured I might as well get use to that.One of my first issues was sorting through MP3 albums.I have several disks of MP3's that have many artists as well as sub albums for each artist.The display of the system would only tell me the name of the album once I started playing the songs, not the artist.On other systems you can see the name of the album before actually having to play the album, and once playing it displays the artist information/track information as well.Hence the menu options were not exactly "user friendly."When selecting the next album there was a sort of lapse where the system would play a second or two of the previous track, from the previous album which was a sort of disturbing sound.Followed by this was silence and then the first track of the selected album would play.I thought this was peculiar but could over look it.What I could not over look was the fact that it skipped way too easily on disks.(MP3 and CD disks alike).On one of my CD's, bought from a store even, skipped awfully on a certain track.This disk was not scratched badly and seemed to have played fine in the past.When I played the same song from the same album in my portable CD/MP3 player, it played perfectly!So in my humble opinion, if this system is about three times as expensive then it should also play so well.
In troubleshooting I made sure the system was level and cleaned the laser heads to make sure it wasn't due to dust from shipping.The remote doesn't work at a distance of more than a few feet.
Ultimately, I did return the system.Thankfully Amazon.com is good about issuing returns in a timely manner!Buyer beware, although you may like this system more than I did.

Jensen AM/FM/CD Boom Box - Black (CD472) Review

Jensen AM/FM/CD Boom Box - Black (CD472)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this portable CD player to occasionally listen to some CDs while I baked.It is small and light enough to move around but I wanted it stationary.The radio reception is mmmeh.If some one in the house moves, the signal is lost to static.I wanted to play CDs so I overlooked this nuisance.

I took it out of the box and read the instructions.It states to always use the stop button to stop the CD and never to just open the lid.Okay, I figured it was cheap so I would follow the instructions to prolong the life.

I found a place to put it and left it there.I only played a few CDs a week.Once, I used the repeat feature.I always used the stop button and even waited for the CD to stop spinning before switching out.Overall this product probably had less than 40 hours of service before it started to clank when it tried to read a CD.It played another two times and now it can't read CDs at all.Only clanks, clanks, clanks.

So for $20 it worked for about 40 hours.It was in only in our house for about 2 months.

I did not purchase this from Amazon, but I wanted to write a review anyway.I have been looking everywhere for a stereo system that has clear sound, great bass, an iPod hookup and cd changer.If it had a cassette deck, that would be even better, but I could deal without one.I really liked the idea of an extra subwoofer.I wasn't going to purchase this system because it only has a 1 disc tray for cd's, but I figured that's where the iPod comes in for continuous music, and I should at least try it.Needless to say, I bought this stereo and hooked it up immediately (set up was a piece of cake).

I was immediately disappointed when the wires for my speakers were extremely short.Maybe only about 3 1/2 feet long.I like to spread out my system a little so I can get the best sound.Now, I'm not talking about placing speakers all around the room - they wouldn't even extend to the edges of my entertainment center.

The worst part of all, and the main reason why I am returning this system, is the sound is muffled.Even when I changed the preset EQ settings, the only one I was somewhat happy with was the "MP3 SURROUND"... but it still muffled my music.I could barely hear "s" sounds in the vocals... when I could, they sounded more like an "f".I should say, I am also very picky when it comes to electronics, but when I'm spending $200 + dollars, I think it's allowed!All I am asking for is crisp sound.

So, here are my pros to the system:
--Very nice looking stereo system
--DSGX feature really boosts the sound, along with the subwoofer
--LOVE the included iPod dock, which also charges
--7 different EQ settings for sound (my old stereo had 4)
--530 watts for loud sound

My cons, which severely outweigh the pros for me:
--Muffled sound.Vocals and music bits are not clear at ALL
--1 CD playing capability
--Wires and chords aren't long enough to spread out components to my liking
--Expensive for the things it is lacking

Hopefully this review will be helpful - I wish I had one that was this detailed when I was looking.Mind you, everyone has their own taste.

I would not recommend this system to anyone who is looking for crisp, clear sound.But if you like a nice strong bass and a lot of power... you may want to take a look.

Sony LBT LCD77Di Shelf Stereo System (Black) Review

Sony LBT LCD77Di Shelf Stereo System
Average Reviews:

My AWIA tanked a while back, and I was forced to get a new unit. AWIA was gonna be a tough act to follow. I'm not someone paid or 'encouraged' to write this either.

This is a pretty good unit. I hope it gives me lots of good years of service. It has a good, rich sound that fills my living room nicely. I have high ceilings and wood floors and the sound is good, not 'tinny' or high pitched. iPod, USB, aux. inputs are great. I like the audio controls O.K. but still want more than 3 layers/bands of an equalizer....The video screen is cool. GREAT picture. But it really has no appreciable function. Unless your in a dorm room maybe, but most folks probably have a laptop that has a much bigger picture anyway. It woud make for a decent digital picture frame, but it's still kinda small for that, and since it's sitting on a shelf or cabinet it's probably not gonna be in a great position to watch. At least that's how it is in my home. Still the picture is Very good.

SONY. All the bells and whistles on the unit, and no RDS?!?! (Radio Disply System) like on my cars radio?? How come that's not on here?? And why not a HD reciever? Those 2 things would have put this unit at 6 stars for me! And why not an option for some decent screen savers while the radio is on? If it's gonna have a screen saver, and the potential for great pictures! How come those LAME images? Since we can't play/see anything else while the radio is playing!

Forgive my whining...Those are just my ideas for improvements. For the money though, this is a good unit. It seems difficult to find a decent stereo these days, and this one fits the bill fairly nicely. Hope this helps. I'm satisfied. Oh and by the way. The distributor, and UPS got this there to me before the scheduled delivery date, and at Christmas Time!

Sony LBTZUX9 Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System 1000W RMS Total Power (Silver) Review

Sony LBTZUX9 Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System 1000W RMS Total Power
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I took time to go to several stores to try different systems. With each system no matter how innovative or divers the system with the latest capabilities, the only thing that made any difference that was noticeable in the store was the number of watts to the speaker. I tried positions and that was pretty much negligible. So now my mission was to find a mini-stereo that would be a shelf system to replace my poor old 25 year old system that finally bit the dust.

I actually tried the Sony LBTZX9 Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System and found it pretty good. Then I spotted on line the Sony LBTZUX9 Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System. 1000 watts meant 250 watts per-speaker. I do not want rock sounds that will breing every fire engine for the surrounding neighborhood. I did not want a system that you have to ware sunscreen to listen to Prokofiev on a cool evening while reading. So I took a chance and ordered this monster. I was aware that it came in a shipping box that would require a team to deliver; how ever I thought it was just well packed. Expecting a mini-stereo, a shelf system I did not expect just one speaker to be larger than the whole of my older stereo system.Naturally I realize that this animal was never going to fit on a shelf (book shelf) as it has twice the depth and would tip out. The tape-to-tape system opens up on the top instead of the front which again makes it impossible to place on a book self. I am also starting to question the term "Mini".

I was able to retrieve Cargo cases from another room to replace the book shelves. It took five of these animals (one for the stereo and one each for the huge speakers.) there are two remotes because there is not enough room on one remote to hold all the buttons. The speakers were simple to setup. Everything works fine out of the box. However this system may be tad overkill. But the purpose is not for great volumes as great ranges to hear the subtle sounds that you can only get in a concert hall. Many of the time I have to pick the "flat" option to keep the boom box effect to overwhelm the music.

Well with its new home and a little adjustment this is the system to take me into the next couple of decades before the technology will make it obsolete.

Liked the MP3 playback and mp3 song name display. cassete player/radio are good too. Remote is nice and lcd display on unit is cool too. Sound quality is good but not much sound, thats why 4 stars (instead of 5). If you want to listen at high volume or loud then it may not be suitable. Ideal for any low/medium level sound volume listeners.
It is good value for the money .

Product Description:
Compact and affordable, the JVC RC-EZ35 boombox is a great fit for tailgaters, picnics, parties, and other occasions when a full-size stereo just won't do. The device is outfitted with a stylish housing that holds a CD player, cassette deck, AM/FM radio, and a pair of full-range speakers. The chassis looks good and holds up durably to on-the-go use, but also fits effortlessly in a bedroom or office setting. Users will groove to the unit's solid range of compatible listening formats, which includes audiocassettes, CDs, CD-R/RW discs, and MP3s (on CD-R/RW). And should listeners want to enjoy a DJ's playlist or NPR program, they can turn to the digital AM/FM tuner, which includes 20 FM and 10 AM presets for quick and easy station access.
The boombox also offers a number of essential CD functions, including 40-track programming, random and repeat play, intro scan, and CD synchro-start recording, which coordinates the first few seconds of CD playback with the cassette deck's record button. The system's solid audio performance stems not just from its 3.56-inch speakers, but also its 1-bit digital-to-analog converter, which ensures a crisp, clean signal. Other features include JVC's Hyper-Bass sound system for improved low-frequency performance, five preset equalizer patterns to ensure a diverse sound, a two-line backlit LCD display, ID3 tagging (shows MP3 title and artist information on the display), a headphone jack for private listening, and a full-function remote control that operates the unit from a distance.
Appropriately for a portable player, the boombox runs on either batteries or AC power and offers a fold-down carrying handle for easy transport. The device also carries a one-year warranty on parts and a 90-day warranty on labor.

We have bought this turntable for listening to our Old CCM collection.
It has a good sound, the internal speakers are just enough to give a nice listening pleasure.

Internal Speakers
Speakers output
Headphone jack
Radio
Volume Control
Power on Switch
That's it.
Does not have bells and whistles but it is a basic Turntable with a nice sound...

I plugged this unit to a sound card and recorded our rare (out of print) LPs collection to my Computer... just to have and keep the songs safe.
Yes... you do not need an USB turntable to record on your computer.
Just plug the "headphone jack" of this unit to the "Line in" on your sound card, then download a Free software like "Audacity" and start recording your LPs. Easy!

I recommend this unit for basic "good sounding" music playing and for LPs to Computer recording...

Nice!

Sony CFD-E100 Portable CD Radio Cassette Recorder Review

Sony CFD-E100 Portable CD Radio Cassette Recorder
Average Reviews:

I looked for a long time for a stereo, boombox or undercounter radio that would fit well in my kitchen.I wanted something that would fit in a small space but still sound good and be able to tune in my favorite radio station which is not always easy to get in.I read tons of reviews and was getting very discouraged.But the Sony CFD-E100 is perfect for my needs.It sounds great, looks good, takes up only a little space and does *not* use the cord as an antenna - which I have found to be an annoying "feature" of some radios.Also, the case is that same white appliance plastic that my coffee maker and toaster are made from, so it blends well in my kitchen and is easy to clean.I also think it's attractive with the blue accents.To save space, the CD player is vertical and in the front, while the cassette player is in the back.So you can't see the cassette player from the front, which confused my husband for a minute.But there's no reason that one way or the other has to be the "front" so you can just turn it around if you want to use the cassette player and need to see it.It also comes with a remote, which I have not had the need to use.

Pros:
* small footprint
* digital tuner that is fairly strong
* CD player
* cassette player-recorder
* pull-out antenna (not one of those "antenna in cord" things)
* easy to clean
* decent speakers

Cons
* a little hard to figure out how to set the radio pre-sets
* price - I paid $70 - not outrageous but not inexpensive

Sony MHC-EC99i Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System with Integrated iPod Dock 530W Review

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After I came home from 5 months in Australia to find my Aiwa stereo not working I knew it was time to buy new audio equipment for my room. I like the idea of a shelf system so I began looking for one that was 10 years newer and fit my preferences. I went the stereo route because I wanted a radio and CD player and ultimately a tape deck, although this unit does not have one. I had read several reviews of this model and went into the store (BJ's Wholesale Club of all places) to test it out. Bringing my iPod, I was thoroughly impressed. I went back the next day and purchased this bad boy.

The stereo comes in a huge box but is managable. I was surprised to find the unit overall is very light-weight and set up is easy. Once I finally had it set up, I was immediately impressed with the stellar sound. This thing is LOUD. You get crisp highs, balanced mids, and thumping lows thanks to the additional subwoofer it comes with. I don't think I've heard an iPod sound as good as it does with this unit. As I have read previously, the speaker cords are a bit short. The satellite speakers are fine, but how is a subwoofer expected to be placed on the floor as I want it with such relatively short cords? I'm planning to get some additional cord so I can place the speakers where I want.

I'm very happy with this system and being a bit picky about my audio sound has proven to help me find a great stereo. All kinds of music sound great, from thumping hip hop to reggae to accoustic rock.

This thing is also pretty sleek looking, being a metallic black, modern looking, and light blue accents in the speakers.

Why not a 5?
-Short cord length
-Small display which is hard to see from far away
-No custom EQ, although "rock" mode sounds best
-No tape deck. I admit tapes are out-dated but it would be nice to have the capability to play them

Overall VERY happy with my purchase and definitely recommend this system to and audiophile who wants to pack some punch into his/her audio system.

Well sometimes the one you least expect and the one most likely overlooked, comes up with a winner!Emerson really surpised me.I was going to buy a Logitech MM50 but when I put them side by side, Emerson iTone iP550 won out.The Logitech had deep sound but reverberated badly.I was surpised at the clarity and pretty good bass on this model.As a matter of fact, when I put it at its height, it retained a great sound without jumping off the counter.Now, get this, what was most suprising was its cost.It was literally more than $70 cheaper than the more popular Logitech!!Okay, it doesn't have the accessories, i.e., carry bag and ultra slimness in design, but its got everything else and more: radio, preset stations, clock, sleep button, digital remote, along with stuff you would expect in the big names.And its cute too!For what you get and for the money you pay, you can't beat it.AND, if you really tell the truth, the only difference in this little guy and those "speaker-only" types, it admits to being a boom box rather than just "stereo speakers."Maybe that's why they are trying to charge more for giving you less!

Product Description:
The Emerson iTone iP550BK portable stereo system is a compact, portabledevice that lets you dock and charge any "dockable" iPod (as of January 2006) andplay it through the built-in speakers. Because your iPod connects directly to the front- mounted docking system, this system is ideal for when you want to share your musicwith others, or for those times when listening through your earbuds is simply not anoption. This system also features a digital clock and AM/FM tuner with a full-functionremote control. And thanks to a couple of connection extras--a USB connector and anauxiliary input--you can connect both newer non-docking iPods, such as the iPodshuffle, and older first-generation iPods, MP3 players, and personal CD players.
It's a breeze to customize the iTone iP550BK according to your personal preferences.The digital turner automatically scans the AM and FM bands and locks in stationsperfectly with no repetitive fine tuning required. You can also save 20 of your favoritestations (10 AM and 10 FM) in the preset memory tuner for immediate recall at the touchof a button. The digital clock, meanwhile, lets you fall asleep and wake up to the radio oryour iPod, while the full-function remote control makes for extremely convenientoperation. Delphi Sa 10034 Skyfi Cd Audio System Review

Delphi Sa 10034 Skyfi Cd Audio System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The mere thought of a combination satellite radio/cd/radio boombox delights the ears. I needed a CD player/radio AND wanted to be able to listen to my XM radio, so I gave this boombox a try. What a disappointment. The main problem is the background noise on the XM radio. The faint high-pitched hum only occurs when listening to the XML radio. The CD player and radio sound fine, however, CDs skip and sometimes hesitate to play. Removing the XM radio takes some practice. You snap the unit into the adapter, which is fine, but to remove it, you have to push on the radio until the unit slides forward. That was my experience.

If you don't already own a Delphi XM radio, consider the Audiophase satellite radio Skybox with AM/FM/CD/MP3 player. Or you could add a receiver to an XM radio family plan,[...].

Pros:
- Radio and cd player fidelity
- Intuitive buttons

Cons:
- Background noise
- Skipping CDs
- Awkward way to insert and remove XM radio
- Garish design

Philips MC235B Flat Wall Mountable Micro Shelf System (Black) Review

Philips MC235B Flat Wall Mountable Micro Shelf System

I just picked this up and it's a very nice shelf system. It's not going to shake the walls at high volume, but if you were looking for that much power, you wouldn't be looking at a shelf system to begin with. The true test of quality sound comes at the lower end of the volume knob. Here is where this unit excels. No hissing or crackling noise and the bass is rich and pure and sounds dynamite. I played a burn job from mp3 files and I was stunned at just how good this unit really does sound! Mind you, this system does have a wee bit more power than comparable units, so you can crank the volume up loud enough for most people's tastes and there is no sound distortion at the high end, either. It's also pretty easy to mount on the wall, if so desired. It does come with a stand, which suffices well enough, if you don't feel like drilling into your walls. I only have one complaint and it's a minor one. While the speakers attach to the unit as seen in the pic, Philips should have also enabled you to be able to mount the speakers onto a wall, apart from the unit, to achieve a much better stereo sound. I have a speaker on the nightstand on each side of the bed and when I lie down to relax with some good tunes, it sounds simply fantastic. So, sound like a good deal? It is, and for a great price, too! Just make sure you have some extra speaker wire handy, as there's not that much attached to each speaker to begin with. Trust me on this. For the price being asked, in my opinion, sound byte for sound byte, this is one of the best shelf units out there. I listened to a lot of small systems in the up to and a little above the one hundred and fifty level and this system won hands down every time. A nice added bonus feature is that it was also the most eye appealing, too!
