Product Description:
Enjoy all 120 channels of Sirius satellite radio while driving in your car with XAct's XTR2CK plug-and-play vehicle kit. Equipped with an XTR2 satellite radio receiver, a docking cradle, an antenna, and a 12-volt cigarette lighter power adapter, the kit includes everything you need to enjoy satellite radio on the highway or the city streets. The XTR2 conveniently displays all artist, song, and channel information on its six-line readout, which also includes a real-time clock. Meanwhile, selecting channels and menu options is a snap thanks to the large, easy-to-access illuminated buttons. And drivers will delight in such bonuses as the 18 station presets, which let you quickly access your favorite stations, and the S-Seek feature, which lets you know when one of your 10 stored song titles is playing on a given Sirius station. You can even search the up-to-the-minute Sirius playlists by category, channel, artist, or song title.
The XTR2 sends its signal to the car's stereo receiver through its built-in wireless FM transmitter, which "broadcasts" the satellite signal over an unused FM frequency--no hardwiring required. As an alternative, you can also connect the XTR2 tuner directly to you stereo's input jack (if it has one) with a separately sold patch cable for the best possible sound quality. Additional features include a docking cradle with a suction mount that holds the XTR2 at an easily accessible angle; a wireless remote for controlling the tuner from a distance; a sleep timer and traditional alarm; and a parental control function that lets you restrict access to Sirius' more off-color content.
Finally, if you'd like to enjoy satellite radio at home, the XTR2 is also compatible with separately sold home or portable boombox kits. The XTR2 tuner, which measures 2.56 by 4.56 by 1.44 inches (W x H x D), is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and labor.
Note: You must subscribe to Sirius satellite radio to receive the satellite radio signal.
What's in the Box
XTR2 satellite radio tuner, docking cradle with suction cup mount, antenna with 21-foot microcable, 6.5-inch rubber antenna tail, wireless remote control, two AAA batteries, cigarette lighter adapter with 70-inch cord, pouch with anti-static cleaner, Sirius channel guide, XAct promotional sheet, antenna instruction manual, user's manual.

Logitech Squeezebox Wi-Fi Internet Radio and Wireless Music Player Review

Logitech Squeezebox Wi-Fi Internet Radio and Wireless Music Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pros:
-Amazing sound quality
-Burr-Brown DAC (pretty much the best around)
-Easy to configure
-Great interface
-Rock-solid performance (no waiting when you hit play, and no network issues)
-Created for IT people by IT people, but doesn't require a lot of IT literacy to get up and running (and their documentation is great).
-Price

Cons:
-The only thing I can think of is that it would be cool to have a USB port with USB Mass Storage Device support so you can plug a USB HDD directly in to this puppy and rock and roll. But, this is just nit-picking, and they probably didn't include USB because it would increase the price and wouldn't offer a lot of performance to a lot of people.Details:
Every once in a while there is a product so genius that it reminds me why I love technology.I had read up about the Squeezebox and I figured it would be really cool. When I picked it up I immediately noticed that it was small.Smaller and sleeker than I expected. It seems to be made of high-quality materials, and at this point I'm feeling pretty unimpressed about the whole thing (since I figured the sound quality would let me down like most digital audio devices... *cough* *cough* *iPod* *cough* *cough*).

My brother and I plug it in to his Denon receiver and B&W speakers, and we power it on.I immediately notice that I like the interface. It's snappy, and the slide transitions actually look pretty cool. The screen is also pretty nice, so I'm starting to feel good about things at this point.

The configuration of this device was a breeze. It auto-detects networks (with broadcast SSID turned on) and I was able to get it on the network in a matter of minutes without reading the manual. The SlimServer software for the PC is also pretty easy to install and configure, and I noticed that they released the source code for the server software.

I first listened to some streaming radio, and I have to say: I was impressed with the quality of the radio stations.I hate MP3 compression (I use FLAC), but the classical stations actually sounded pretty good to my ears. The best part is that the radio stations just work.No problems. No weird network timeouts.Just on-demand radio by Genre, City, Etc.

After playing around with the radio, I decided to listen to some FLAC that I am really familiar with to get an idea of the DAC and the fidelity of the player. My brother and I were blown away by the sound quality of my FLAC files. It sounds about as good as his Denon CD player, and it puts every other digital audio player I have ever heard to complete and utter shame.

There are a lot of things I like about this product. The fact that they release the source and allow you to create custom plug-ins is cool.Everything about this seems like it's created by some friggin' good engineers that want other IT people to appreciate it.

This thing is simply amazing. For price-to-performance, you can't beat it!

Delphi SkyFi2 XM Satellite Radio Receiver and Car Kit Review

Delphi SkyFi2 XM Satellite Radio Receiver and Car Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After much research, I finally decided that this was the receiver for me!So far, so good.

I am primarily using this in the car, so I grabbed this version that included the car kit.If you only want one receiver but want to use it in two cars, you will need an extra car kit. It's too annoying to try to move the antenna between cars.I had looked at a few portable units, but I chose this one since it was designed primarily for those in the car, and I wanted the a unit that was going to be easy to use when I'm in the car.

Installation was very easy.I did it myself, and my antenna is on top of my roof near the front. The antenna cord is about 24 feet long, so there is plenty of extra cord if you are in a sedan like me.I ran my cord right under the weatherstripping on the front windsheild as was suggested at cruchfield.com, then through the door and around the door jam.The kit also includes one of those little tubes that you can fit around your cords, as you will have three: antenna, power and the cassette. All cords plug into the base.

I used the air vent base installation instructions (the kit also comes with dashboard mount and a swivel mount, but both can damage your car when you're ready to remove the mounts). The only thing is that I wish it were a little more steady from side to side when I am pushing the buttons. It takes some playing around with to get just right.

The receiver itself has been pretty easy to use.I definitely recommend actually reading the instructions on how to use all of the different buttons. There are 30 memory buttons available. There is also a neat feature that will alert you to when your favorite artist or song is playing, and the alert will allow you to go straight to that channel if you so desire.

One downside is that only the buttons have a backlight. The labels above them do not have these lights. So, until I get to remember exactly where the "jump," "memory" and "menu" buttons are, it's going to be to difficult to use them in the dark.

There is also a 30 minute record/replay function on this receiver. However, anything you save is erased when the unit is turned off.

I tracked this item for a few weeks before I bought it, as I noticed that the price occasionally would change from day to day.Amazon's price when I bought this three days ago was $93.99, and today it is listed about $3 less. Some third party merchants have dropped the price below the Amazon price from time to time, but generally, the Amazon price has been the lowest.

If you buy this item before the end of April 2006, there is also a $30 rebate available from XM.

Although I have not actually been a Sirius subscriber, I took advantage of the online trials with Sirius and XM.I also read some reviews of both and examined their channel guide.Their offerings are very similar. If you are interested in sports, XM has great college ACC/Pac 10/Big 10 channels (I am a UNC grad, so I have to have my ACC sports!), NASCAR and MLB.Sirius offerings are more towards NFL/MLH fans. One review I read said that the music on Sirius tended to be what he phrased as "riskier," which the reviewer defined as playing more deep cuts, etc.I have been very, very pleased with the XM offerings, playlist, variety, talk, etc.No complaints with XM here!

Crosley CR49 Traveler Portable Turntable, Tan Review

Crosley CR49 Traveler Portable Turntable, Tan
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As you would guess from its price and its source, this nifty portable player gives mediocre (but pretty satisfactory) performance on LPs, and does a little better on 45s, but it is simply amazing on 78s (manufactured from the late 1890s to the mid-1950s, petering out just at the dawn of rock-n-roll).I have no idea how this can be, but it is flat out true that my ancient 78s sounded better, richer, fuller, and far more enjoyable, on this sub-$100 player (at Rite-Aid, no less), than on my high-end stereo equipment.True, the very weakest link in my real system is the Thorens 180 turntable I use for 78s, but that alone can't account for the remarkably low surface noise and sheer listening pleasure to be had from these shellac geezers as played on the Crosley portable tonight (I just bought it, while my wife was looking for floss and nail polish). There's also something palpably magical about sitting in front of this tan beauty that seems to make the music better -- maybe these old records were intended to be played on these machines, and they only sound right this way.I do remember listening to my very first 45s (with the big hole in the middle) on something very like this player, when I was about 4 years old, staying with my cousins at the Jersey Shore in the 1950s - I was hooked on music from that moment.Probably because the overall fidelity is on the low side, the ear seems to adjust immediately, and "fill in the gaps" in the sound in a much more pleasing way than when listening to laughably more expensive and more sensitive equipment.I tried 78s from a variety of eras - from a 1907 one-sided Victor recording of a long-dead quartet singing "God Be With You Till We Meet Again," to a late-40s pressing of Bull Moose Jackson's "Bow-Legged Woman" on the King label (pretty rare, but I could see and hear that the needle was not doing any damage to the grooves - in contrast to what the original 1950s portables, with ten-pound tracking force, did to records (turned them into grey powder after the second or third play)). Every 78 I played on the Crosley just sounded more musical than on my Conrad Johnson/Pass Labs/Quad megasystem.Go figure. And even the fussy Mikey (Michael Fremer of Stereophile fame) would not be too displeased at the decent build quality and floating plinth and arm - a tiny nod to high end 'table developments of the past 25 years.Highly recommended!

Jensen 3-Speed Stereo Turntable with AM/FM Stereo Radio - JTA-220 (Silver) Review

Jensen 3-Speed Stereo Turntable with AM/FM Stereo Radio - JTA-220
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have bought this turntable for listening to our Old CCM collection.
It has a good sound, the internal speakers are just enough to give a nice listening pleasure.

Internal Speakers
Speakers output
Headphone jack
Radio
Volume Control
Power on Switch
That's it.
Does not have bells and whistles but it is a basic Turntable with a nice sound...

I plugged this unit to a sound card and recorded our rare (out of print) LPs collection to my Computer... just to have and keep the songs safe.
Yes... you do not need an USB turntable to record on your computer.
Just plug the "headphone jack" of this unit to the "Line in" on your sound card, then download a Free software like "Audacity" and start recording your LPs. Easy!

I recommend this unit for basic "good sounding" music playing and for LPs to Computer recording...

Nice!

The home adapter kit is fantastic!First, it's very easy to install.Second, it doesn't take up much space.Third, it increases the funtionality of the SKYFi2.Finally, it's relatively inexpensive.

I received the SKYFi2 with car adapter kit as a Christmas gift. After having it professionally installed in my car, I became an instant fan of XM Radio.I soon started listening to XM on my home computer via XMRadio Online and then decided to go with the home apapter.XM Radio sounds incredible on my stereo system and there is little to no interference.Just remember...don't let the AC cord and the audio cables touch or you will definitely get interference.

Delphi Sa 10034 Skyfi Cd Audio System Review

Delphi Sa 10034 Skyfi Cd Audio System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The mere thought of a combination satellite radio/cd/radio boombox delights the ears. I needed a CD player/radio AND wanted to be able to listen to my XM radio, so I gave this boombox a try. What a disappointment. The main problem is the background noise on the XM radio. The faint high-pitched hum only occurs when listening to the XML radio. The CD player and radio sound fine, however, CDs skip and sometimes hesitate to play. Removing the XM radio takes some practice. You snap the unit into the adapter, which is fine, but to remove it, you have to push on the radio until the unit slides forward. That was my experience.

If you don't already own a Delphi XM radio, consider the Audiophase satellite radio Skybox with AM/FM/CD/MP3 player. Or you could add a receiver to an XM radio family plan,[...].

Pros:
- Radio and cd player fidelity
- Intuitive buttons

Cons:
- Background noise
- Skipping CDs
- Awkward way to insert and remove XM radio
- Garish design

Philips PSS110 GoGear ShoqBox 256 MB Personal MP3 Sound System Review

Philips PSS110 GoGear ShoqBox 256 MB Personal MP3 Sound System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this little guy hoping it could be a good alarm clock replacement, but I've found that it doesn't work so well in that regard. That is not to say that it is a bad music player though, it's just not meant to be an alarm clock.

It looks like it would be perfect as a portable speaker set for an iPod or something, due to it's size and rechargeable battery. Or if you didn't have a computer at work and wanted something you could bring in to play music files on. It's very portable.

The good:
1. sound - puts out some pretty decent sound considering the size.
2. size - smaller than I thought it would be. not pocket-sized, but not prohibitively big or heavy either.
3. looks - very polished design.
4. accessories - comes with cord antenna, line-in cord & carry case, all good add-ons that complete the function of the unit.
5. firmware upgradeable, so more (or more improved) features may be yet to come.

The bad:
1. clock displays in 24hr format all the time. I'm guessing Europe is the primary market for this thing.
2. When plugged in and turned off, the LCD backlight is on all the time. Might bother some people who are light sleepers. and when you have the unit on, the backlight has a 5 sec timeout? it would seem to make more sense the other way around to me.
3.alarm snooze is only 10 minutes, and automatic. I prefer it to only go into snooze when you hit a "snooze" button, so I can leave the radio running while I get dressed and stuff in the morning. as it is now, you have to turn it off after the alarm goes off, then turn it back on again, or else it will automatically go into snooze mode after 10 minutes.
4. you have to use musicmatch jukebox to upload music to it. well, you can upload music manually, like it was a flash drive, but the device uses a SQLite database, which needs to be updated or else it won't see any new music in the music folder. there are some third party apps for updating this db for you, but they are flaky at best. I just hate having to use an app to do something as simple as moving files.

The good news about most of these bad things is that because the unit is firmware upgradeable, Philips could release fixes for them eventually, if they are on the ball.

So, I will still say I like this thing, even if I do have to still stick with my older, uglier alarm clock for now.

UPDATE: the latest firmware for this has fixed two issues:

1) it now does 12 hour time display as well as 24 hour.
2) the backlight will dim after a short timeout period when it is plugged in.

Just an FYI.

2. Tiny
3. Cute
4. Decent radio reception even with very short antenna

Con:
1. Puny sound (but it's a tiny, inexpensive stereo...)
2. IT HUMS. In radio or CD mode, there is a moderate/low pitched hummming sound that comes through the music. Even when you're not playing a CD, there's the hum. I thought it was just me, since I'm very sensitive to hums, but my wife (who doesn't care) noticed it, too, without my pointing it out.

I MAY keep this boombox because it's cheap and cute, but the hum really does irritate me.

Emerson PD5098 Portable Radio CD Player Review

Emerson PD5098 Portable Radio CD Player
Average Reviews:

I bought this CD player for it's size.We use it on our kitchen, where it fits nicely on a shelf.

Aside from being a space saver, there isn't much to say about this unit.It plays CDs fine and hasn't had any trouble playing discs I've burned using iTunes.Being able to see the disc spinning is kind of cool.

There are only two things I don't really like about this player: the AM/FM radio tuner and the volume control. The radio tuner is not digital, so you have to manually tune in a station every time you want to listen to the radio. It does seem to get pretty good reception though. The volume doesn't go up very high.Don't get me wrong, it's loud enough, it's just not loud enough for me to hear well from the other room.Of course, some might see this as a positive thing.

Overall, I would recommend this CD player if all you need are bare bones CD player functions.
