(More customer reviews)I just received my unit a few days ago, and it is a good value for all of the features. As others have said, the bottom end is weak for a unit its size, but there also a bug in the USB directory system that makes it very difficult to use with USB sticks. The bug is that it doesn't read the directory tree properly, and when you work through the menu to a track, it ends up playing a completely different track.

This is with a 4GB stick formatted FAT32; I don't know how it works with FAT or NTFS. The manual was also underwhelming, and really didn't talk about this in much detail. All of the tracks are available, and play properly, it's just very difficult to locate them.

It also doesn't recognize a 1GB stick that I have that works fine with the computer and the USB car radio that I have, so not all sticks will work with this. I have no idea why that particular stick is a problem.

Update - I discovered by trial and error that despite what it says in the manual, you can't mix tracks and subfolders in a folder, if you want the directory system to work correctly. After rearranging the folders so that there are all tracks or all subfolders in a folder, it works properly.

(More customer reviews)I bought this unit simply to record to tape from CD, since I still have a tape player in my work truck. Once I figured out the control keys from the skimpy 'Instruction Manual' I actually was able to record a cassette. Unfortunately, when I play it back, the sound is distorted, with hiss, wobbly sound, and what sounds like old AM radio static. Songs with drums on track two (voice on track one) sound like tick-tack noises. Also, there is no semblance of bass/treble, just a mushy mix. I have recorded lots of cassettes on a Sony boombox that I had for 10 years (cost $99), but the SC-712 is not even close in recorded sound quality.
OK... now I know why I'm the first reviewer.

I paid around $100 for it and really loved using it for the two years it lived.We're pretty well-stocked in the way of iPod accessories (iLuv clock/radio, iPod dock on our surround sound, iTravel, and then our PCs themselves), so I only actually used it outside and on a couple of family vacations.For us it did the trick, playing my iPod while relaxing with friends outside during our 3 1/2 months of summer here PLUS it was portable enough to take when we went away.I loved the way it looked with its built-in handle, and never thought the sound was lacking.I actually never thought anything about it was negative at all.Until now.

Just today, after not using it for the past eight months I plugged it in and went to turn it on and NOTHING!The power pack attached to the electric cord shows the green light, but hit that on/off button and absolutely nothing happens.Oh, well, the display did illuminate for a nano-second on one or two of my tries, but that was about it.Googled the problem and it seems I'm not alone.Quite a few others have posted this issue in several different forums but there's not ONE solution posted at all...just that others are indeed experiencing the same problem.

So I'm kind of in the middle here.I liked it a lot, but I bet I'd used it no MORE than 40 or 50 times.Was it worth the money for two years of only occasional use?Ummm, for me, no.And I'm kinda bummed because ***I*** was the one who out-and-out refused to take my boombox down to the beach for fear of ruining it (always stayed up in the beach house)!So it was well taken care of...nothing I did to cause this problem, of that I'm sure.

Take this for what it's worth.They've REALLY come down in price so you might want to give it a shot...it wasn't a bad product while it worked.As for me, I just bought a Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere.We're going to see if we have better luck with that one!

The iMove comes with 8 adapters for most iPod's (4th Generation, iPod Photo, iPod w/Video, iPod mini, iPod nano).It did not come with an adapter for the new metal case iPod nano, but Memorex offers a free adapter if you call them at 1-800-321-6993.
The sound is descent and as good as anything I shopped for in the price range up to $120, has a digital display and comes with a radio which is nice as well.

The product looks nice and sounds ok.However, the quality of the plastics, paint and buttons is poor.The plastics are misaligned.The paint easily comes off and buttons wiggle and are loose.

(More customer reviews)I'm always looking for SD chip player peripherals.This one has a nice feature set, and sounds pretty good as well in SD chip mode.FM radio mode doesn't sound as good.Cheap analog AM / FM tuner and volume, but that fits the price.The blue LCD display is a little hard to read.

Added annoyance:SD songs can end a few seconds early with a small "pop."Not sure why it happens to some songs and not others.

I'd be willing to pay more for more features, like better radio, better sound, and a dual alarm clock for travel.Add a weather radio band and it would be the perfect traveling companion.I'm hoping this technology takes off because carrying music in the SD format is very convenient, more convenient than fumbling with ipod peripherals.

The manual is in mice print and the one online discusses a double deck and this is NO double deck. I wish companies gave a darn about how manuals are written but I guess they never will.

The speakers on this boombox are very good for the price. I was very surprised. That is why I ordered another one. I got my first one at walmart and they stopped stocking them. (you have to love walmart for this is their trade mark. lolol) I would buy another one if something happened to this one.

(More customer reviews)I have usually ben happy with the Coby products I've owned in the past, but this one is a disappointment. I wanted to get an inexpensive boom box for my girlfriend to put in the kitchen that would not only play standard CDs but also mp3 CDs and had a radio and cassette recorder as well. The radio and cassette sections seem to do about as well as you'd expect for a boom box selling for $39.95. And yes, it seems to play standard CDs well, although it seems to not play the last track of some of them well. However, mp3 CD playback is very iffy. I have made over a hundred mp3 CDs, and some it will play and others, for whatever reason, it will start reading, then sit there and act like it's having trouble reading, then quit. It also seems it won't read certain brands of CDs I've burned. I don't understand why this thing is so picky. Despite this, I'm keeping the unit since I bought an extended warranty with it and it mostly does fine with its other functions. But I can only play some of my MP3 CDs on it. If you want something that seems much less picky, although not absolutely perfect, and you want something cheap and simple, try the Jwin JXCD472. I got one of those and that one seems to work much much better.

(More customer reviews)I was looking for a MP3 CD Player to replace the CD only player in my kitchen.After all, who wants to just listen to a single CD these days right?Surprisingly, that type of player is very hard to find, so I was happy to discover this one on Amazon.It arrived, and it does everything listed in the features (MP3 CD, regular CD, MP3 USB, MP3 SD, and even Cassettes).For the size (and price) the sound is pretty good.

So what makes it not great?Well, I unpack the unit, plug it in (after finding the power cord stored in the battery compartment), and pop in one of my car MP3 CD's with 160 songs on it.Yippee!, it plays MP3's, and then the disappointment sets in.After punching all the buttons, and then reading the manual, there is NO WAY to select random/shuffle play.Yup, you're stuck listening to all 160 songs in the EXACT SAME ORDER as they're burned to the CD (or USB or SD).

So every day when you sit down to breakfast, and woof down your Cheerios, you get to hear songs 1-7.Next day, songs 1-7, day after 1-5 (running late), etc, etc.WTF?Who would design such a player?

So it's a MP3 CD Player - it's just not a very smart one.

I was going to order a second one for my bathroom (who doesn't shower to music???), now I'm not so sure.

--Update Aug 14th 2010--

Just a few months after purchasing, and it doesn't play CD's or MP3CD's anymore.No matter what known good disk is inserted - it says NOd (meaning no disk).

I'd expect (and could live with) this if it was a $18.99 craptastic special from Walmart - but for $58 plus shipping it's a TOTAL RIPOFF.

Unfortunately there's no way to change my "Star rating" - cause now it's a lowly ONE STAR not the 4 I originally gave it.

Avoid at all cost.The search for a decent MP3 CD Boombox continues :(

This is a great CD player.I've had it for several weeks now and have never had an issue with it at all.CDs play fine and the radio (AM & FM) come in crystal clear.I would definitely recommend this CD player to someone looking for a no-frills player that works extremely well for the price.Compact, light-weight and EXTREMELY easy to use.My six-year-old daughter uses it with no problem at all.HIGHLY recommended.

Cornet BH-426 Portable CD/ MP3 Player with USB/ SD Review

(More customer reviews)I compared this with 2 other boomboxes in my store. All are near the $50 (w/shipping) price range. Out of the Sony ZSE5 series (the white and colored boomboxes) The NAXA NX-250/NPB-250 (used to cost forty sixdollars after shipping) and the Cornet BH-426 I found the following.

The NAXA NX-250 sounds the best, somewhat decent bass, though don't expect great bass for less than a hundred bucks
Second in order of performance was the Cornet, with a tinnier sound and less bass than the NAXA. It does look the nicest by far out of the three.
The Sony had by FAR the worst sound. Way worse than the Cornet. No bass, just totally flat mid range.
The radio was hardest to pick up FM on the sony as well. If you can afford it, and Amazon drops the price back to ninety two dollars, the sony CFDG505 CFDG505BLACK DOES sound about 10 times better than even the NAXA NX-250, proving that if sony's low end boombox is j-u-n-k at lest their mid range box is spectacular.
