Atlantis Multi-Media System & Video Output for iPod - SF-1001 Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)I have tried the Altec Lansing iM600 firewire charging AND usb docking station, only to find out that my ipod touch 2nd generation does not work properly in it.I was very bummed out, as I had already had to return 2 other ipod docking stations!I found out that the iPod touch 2nd gen. is pretty much too new of a product for most of the current docking stations out there.Very few will actually charge the iPod touch 2 gen, and neither will this model.BUT,this was not my reason for purchasing the Atlantis. The Altec Lansing sounded pretty great, but was much more money and did not work for my iPod.I bought this at Sam's club for $29,so I don't know why it is listed on here for $169......but WOW it is a great deal for the price. The remote control is great, it has pretty powerful sound for a small boombox. It does not have a rechargeable battery in it, but I will rarely take it with me anywhere. Here are the pros and cons:
PROS
1. GREAT VALUE!!
2. GREAT SOUND,NO CRACKLING, FOR A SMALL SPEAKER IT PUTS OUT SOME GOOD SOUND.
3.SOUND FILLS MY KITCHEN AND LIVING ROOM.
4. REMOTE CONTROL IS EASY TO UNDERSTAND AND CONTROLS THE IPOD SONGS TOO
5. CAN PLUG IN USB OR SD CARD INTO PORT AND WILL PLAY MP3'S AS WELL
6. ALARM WILL TURN ON WITH IPOD AND SOUND STARTS GRADUALLY WHEN ALARM GOES OFF, SO YOU ARE NOT JOLTED OUT OF BED WITH A LOUD SOUND SUDDENLY
7. VOLUME WILL DEFINITELY GO REALLY LOW TO SILENT IF YOU WANT SO THAT YOU CAN FALL ASLEEP---ALSO HAS SLEEP MODE IF YOU LIKE TO FALL ASLEEP TO MUSIC SOFTLY
CONS
1. TAKES BATTERIES IF NOT PLUGGED IN.DOES NOT HAVE RECHARGEABLE BATTERY PACK
2. MAY NOT SOUND AS GOOD AS A BOSE OR HIGHER END MODEL, BUT DEFINITELY SOUNDS BETTER THAN THE IHOME CLOCK MODELS, AND AS GOOD AS MOST $150 MODELS.
3. IF YOU LIKE TO BLAST YOUR MUSIC, THIS MAY NOT HAVE THE GREAT SPEAKER QUALITY TO DO SO WITHOUT BLOWING THE SPEAKERS, BUT IF YOU LIKE TO LISTEN TO LOUD OR MODERATELY LOUD MUSIC THE SOUND QUALITY IS GREAT.
4. WILL NOT CHARGE IPOD TOUCH 2ND GEN ON THIS MODEL
I COULD PROBABLY LIST MANY MORE PROS!!!BEST $29 I SPENT

Logitech Z-5500 THX-Certified 5.1 Digital Surround Sound Speaker System Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)These speakers are even better than I read about. The main thing that nobody seems to mention is that these speakers basically have a built-in receiver so you can plug your DVD player or whatever directly into the speakers. This, imo, is so important that all the other competing speaker systems really don't compete.Obviously, it's not as good as having a real receiver and can't amplify as much as an external system, but most people that want to hook these speakers up to their computer and other devices simultaneously, and would like to save space and money, would really appreciate this. The toslink output is the highest quality I've heard. Also, I made the mistake that others have made of removing the screw on the back of one of the speakers, rendering it impossible to put the stand back on.And if you open it to fix the problem, you'll void your warranty, so I have to send it to Logitech to be replaced. So, if you need to put these on a stand, whatever you do don't remove any screws on the speaker.

iHome iH31S - Boombox for iPod and iPod Shuffle With Remote. MP3 Player and FM Radio - SILVER Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)This seems like a nice product, except for the fact that it is an older model that has been discontinued by iHome and is not compatible with my 5th generation iPod nano. This would have been helpful information when making a decision on which boombox I wanted to go with my new nano.

XACT XS097 Deluxe Universal Satellite Radio CD / MP3 / AM/FM Boombox System Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)XACT is a dishonest company. They claim to have a warranty on their products, but there is literally NO WAY to get them to repair or replace a product. If you call their support number, you get an automated system with no option to talk to an operator. Instead, the system gives you an e-mail address. Then you have to e-mail them several times to get a response, and all they say is "Send it back to the retailer," even after the 30 day return period.
I bought the XACT COMMUNICATIONS XG2500 Cordless Headset Telephone in late 2008 and it was of mediocre but acceptable quality at first. But then the battery life took a nosedive. A cordless phone that lasts ten minutes on a full charge isn't useful. And that happened during the one year warranty period. But I couldn't get a repair, replacement, or refund from the company. So my only recourse is to give out one-star reviews and warn others about the company.

Logitech Squeezebox Boom All-in-One Network Music Player / Wi-Fi Internet Radio Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)I am a radio nut (going back to the tube days)and the Squeezebox Boom is my third internet radio. I have a Roku Soundbridge R1000 and Sangean WFR-20 as well. All have their strengths, but the Squeezebox Boom is without a doubt a significant step up; it sets a new high standard in performance, capabilities, and ease of operation.
For wireless streaming of your music collection from a PC or Mac, the Boom is best. It can handle more formats (nearly anything except DRM protected iTunes files) and works well without crashes or delays. In this the Roku is #2, and the Sangean ranks 3rd(crashes and stutters a lot).
For internet radio, they all work well. The Sangean is the only one that natively handles RealAudio Streams (like BBC) but has problems with clear channel stations. All of them pick up the stations I want without problems, so I rate this a tie.
If you want to interface with online music services like Rhapsody/Pandora/ MP3Locker etc, the Boom works great, with far more capacity than the other two. The Slimdevices/Squeezebox folks also update and improve their software far more frequently than the other two, so I expect it to remain in the lead in features and available services.
In sound quality, the Roku and Boom are both outstanding, with the Sangean good, but clearly a step lower. The Roku's subwoofer seems to go a bit deeper in my room, but the Boom is perhaps a bit more smooth and musical. The Boom uses the same woofers and tweeters as the highly rated Logitech Z-10, but with better bass (because of a larger cabinet and new amp/equalizer circuitry). They both sound absolutely great and play quite loud.
Ease of initial setup: If you are starting from scratch, I think the Sangean is the easiest to set up, if you do NOT want to stream audio from your PC...that is a real hassle. Both the Boom and Roku require a bit more work.
Ease of Use AFTER set up:Boom is best BY FAR.Not only do the menus make real sense, but the illuminated controls make it the only radio you can use easily without turning on the lights. The big control knob and back lit function buttons get you through all of the functions fast.
As a Clock Radio, the Boom has more options than the others, and the display has a huge adjustment range so it will not disturb light sleepers.
All of these radios are a lot of fun.The Boom does most, and does it best.
