(More customer reviews)If you're looking for a great sounding powered speaker for your Roady, and don't plan to move it around very often, this could be just what you're looking for.The sound quality is very good, even at low volume levels.The sound is clear, with good range.

Battery life is about 8 to 10 hours, depending on volume level.The Playdock powers itself off automatically to extend battery life after the Roady has been off for five minutes.Unfortunately, there is no battery gauge.

But the PlayDock weighs enough that most of us won't be moving it around very often.Most people will probably leave it plugged in most of the time.If you're looking for a portable unit, keep in mind that the PlayDock weighs about as much as a bowling ball (I haven't weighed it, but I'd estimate around 15 pounds).

The controls are simple.The only controls are a power button, volume, mute and a "wide" button.Although the sound is well balanced, I was surprised to find no bass/treble controls.And a battery gauge of some kind would be nice.

(More customer reviews)At 22 pounds and measuring 22 x 8 x 7.2 inches, the Kanto SYD5BLK I-Pod dock/speaker is not small or lightweight but neither is its sound (very good, rich and full) or its workmanship (beautiful, substance/heft with a gorgeous piano-black finish).Easy to plug in and use.Master volume on its backside.Remote control.You can also hook up a Zune but the remote is not compatible for changing songs (nor is the Kanto advertised for other systems).

Check out the product description for other specific details.The manual is small--not much to it.The front cover has a magnetic front protecting the speakers (or remove it exposing the speakers/see alternative photos on product page).The amazon packaging was excellent.

This sleek item arrived in perfect condition and we listened to tunes within moments.Sound is rich, full with no distortion at high volume.My husband's ear is finely tuned for sound quality and he is very impressed by the Kanto.

Haven't tried hooking it up to the computer or TV but see no reason this alternative use would be complex.If you've got the space, go for it.

The amazon product page photo doesn't do it justice if you're into electronics that are also beautiful...the Kanto SYD5BLK fits that billing.We are VERY VERY pleased!

(More customer reviews)I bought this as a low cost alternative to some of the other iPod clock radios out there and returned the first one because I was getting the same loud hissing out of the speakers like previous consumers have stated.When I exchanged it for another one, I got the same hissing.I tried multiple cradle adaptors and was about to return it again when I pulled the iPod up very slightly from the docking station.Once I did this it was crystal clear.Turns out the docking station plug is taller than most other iPod charger docks and puching it too far will create the interference.

Sorry for being long winded, but long story short, now that I have it figured out, the sound is fine and for a workplace music player this is just the thing I was looking for.Knowing what I know now about, I would recommend it.

I grew up poor but happy and now that I am on my own, I like to make sure I am getting my moneys worth of anything I buy. This ipod dock may be small but don't underestimate its high quality and simple design because of its size!

I compose music and am acutely aware of the tonal frequencies when listening to my music in different speakers. These speakers are extremely high quality and have a surprisingly full spectrum of sound. The high end frequencies (5k-20k hrtz) are crisp and clear and the low end frequencies such as the bass (80-140) and even a minute portion of sub the bass (40-79) comes through very nicely. I was really surprised and just sat there looking at these little speakers in amazement the first time I plugged in my ipod.

The handy remote makes it so convenient while at work, I don't have to get up and go over to the cabinet across the room when I get a call or some one stops by my office. The remote also accesses menu options on your ipod! I can find a new play list, choose to shuffle or repeat with the remote!!! Sometimes during lunch when I am out at the coffee shop with free wifi, I drain my ipod battery by downloading new apps or movies. Plugging in my ipod to this dock charges it back up!

I have to admit, I did not have to purchase this because I won it as a bingo prize. Had I walked past this little thing in a store I would not have given it a chance but now owning it for a week now, I absolutely love it! It is worth the money they are charging on Amazon!
It is an extremely high quality product!

Philips Revolution Motorized Portable Speaker Dock for iPhone/iPod Review

(More customer reviews)It seems that iPod/iPhone speaker docks are a hot item, and every company that has ever produced a magnet has decided to jump on the bandwagon. Of course, the competition is great for consumers. But a unit like this can be difficult to judge without actually playing with it. I have to admit, the concept of a motorized dock that rotates my iPhone for video viewing like some contraption out of 2001: A Space Odyssey was intriguing to me. And the price isn't that much more than a normal non-rotating speaker dock.

Well, as so often happens with those daydreams of having the outright COOLEST (fill in the blank) EVER MADE, reality fell pretty far short.Not that this is a bad dock necessarily, but...

Okay, let's talk about it.

===== Appearance =====

It's a pretty slick looking box, no doubt about it. The blue LED ring is noticeable but not distracting, and the face has clean lines and a high-tech minimalist feel. When rotated to movie viewing mode, the LED ring fades to white. The LED ring light is defeatable via one of the buttons.There are 5 low-profile buttons on top and a power jack on the back, along with a line in jack.

The manufacturer's photos are deceiving -- they did a good job making the unit look thin, but this is not the case. It's several inches deep, which is a mixed blessing. You might be disappointed in its size after looking at the photos, but the depth of the unit does allow Philips to utilize the space for improved bass performance.

Finally, the piece that the phone/iPod attaches to sticks out a bit more than the product photos suggest. It's not as deceiving as the depth, but worth a mention.

Speaking of the dock portion...

===== Motorized Dock =====

Some people are going to want to buy this unit for this feature. And I'll admit, it does have a certain 'cool' factor to it. The motor is fast, smooth and quiet, and the effect is pretty neat when combined with the LED ring fading from blue to white.

Sadly, it's just not worth anything in real-world terms. It's cool that you can use the remote to rotate the screen, but....Question: What are you NOT doing if you're far enough away to be using the remote?Answer: Watching a video on your iPhone. Nobody watches a video on their iPod/iPhone from 4 or more feet away. With a light press on the motorized dock, it will swing one way or the other for you, without the need for the remote. So, it may be useful if you're holding the speaker dock in your arms and watching a video.But then, it's just too bulky to be comfortable for that purpose, like holding a small baby (albeit less squishy).I'd rather just use headphones, or *gasp* the built-in iPhone speaker just for the convenience factor.

The unit will charge your iPod/iPhone, as long as its plugged into the wall. I didn't think it did at first, because the first time I plugged my iPod in it didn't charge. Every time after that, though, it did charge.I'm not quite sure why that happened, but it seems I'm not the only one that happened to.

===== Remote =====

The remote is pretty nice, much more solid than some others and with an attractive gloss black finish. It has the standard buttons, plus a bass boost toggle button and the rotate button. It takes a CR2032 battery, and while it's not as thin as the remote for the Altec Lansing iMT620 inMotion Classic Portable iPod Dock with Rechargeable Battery and FM Tuner, there is still a port in the back for storing the remote. Although, the only thing holding the remote in there is a rather weak magnet.I haven't had it fall out yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

===== Sound Quality =====

This is the big thing, isn't it?It doesn't matter how many cool gadgets they cram into one of these things, if it sounds like Colin Meloy is singing from the bottom of a well, the dock fails to serve its primary purpose. Well in this case, it's a mixed bag. The low frequency output is pretty outstanding -- certainly better than the aforementioned Altec Lansing iMT620. Of course, this is to be expected, since the Altec Lansing is actually as thin as they claim (roughly a third the depth of this Philips unit). Mid-range and high frequencies, however, are far better on the Altec Lansing.But keep in mind that I compared them side by side to notice this.When I first took the Philips out of the box, I played it by itself without any reference and it sounded great to me. Additionally, I believe the Philips has better sound when you're listening from a distance.When the unit is farther away from me, it has the power needed to push the sound to wherever I am. The Altec Lansing can do this, but the sound starts to get a bit tinny and thin at a distance.

===== Features =====

The features are all pretty much as stated above, but I want to give an example of what you are (or are not) getting for the money.Again, I will use the Altec Lansing for comparison since I have one sitting right here.

Altec Lansing iMT620: Current price is about $40 less than the Philips dock. Includes an FM tuner with telescoping antenna, a backlit LCD display (mostly useless but shows your volume level which is nice), has (in my opinion) superior sound quality, has a much smaller footprint, and has a built-in rechargeable battery that lasts for several hours of constant use. The port feels more flimsy, like it would be easy to break with the iPhone/iPod merely "balanced" on its port with no other support.

Philips Revolution: More expensive, no radio functionality, no display, takes up more space, and requires 8 AA batteries if you don't have a place to plug it in. But it does have a motorized dock that you'll never use. Has a 'cradle' that the iPhone/iPod slides into, making it feel much more sturdy feeling than the Altec Lansing. The cradle comes with several different attachments for different sizes of iPod, so you're sure to have one that fits.

===== Documentation =====

Ha! What documentation?! It's actually pretty funny. The "instruction manual" is a folded piece of paper with pictures on it. They are mainly two-frame cartoons, in the pattern:

Frame 1: Finger next to a button
Frame 2: "Sound" lines come out of the dock.

That finger in each first frame points at a different button each time, but all they ever do is make lines come out of the dock.It's comical, and I guess you get the idea. You really probably don't need instructions for something this simple anyway. But if you buy this dock, definitely check out the documentation. Then consider how much the technical writers over at Philips probably get paid to do their jobs.

===== Conclusion =====

I don't dislike this dock, but I'm not in love with it. The motor feature that seems to be the major selling point is questionable in its usefulness, and there are other smaller units with more features for less money. On the other hand, if you really want to watch videos on your iPhone in landscape format and you have to use a portable speaker dock and you don't mind supplying it with enough AA batteries to power the city of Cleveland for two days and you don't mind having to cradle something the size of a loaf of bread in your arms to do it, then this dock may be for you.

Okay, the color-fading LED ring is more fun than it should be. So it's got that too.

(More customer reviews)I say medium because this thing is a little bit bigger than some iPod docking stations I've seen, but it has so much to offer.Great sound quality as far as my ears can tell once you turn DBB on.Comes with a radio which is a bonus for me because I wasn't really looking for one with a radio, but I have used it, and the quality is great and I pick up every station I pick up in my car.Also allows you to have up to six preset stations which is nice if you do use the radio a lot.

It works great with my iPod (80GB Classic), and I'm sure it works fine with any other iPod.One of the things I like is that if you turn the player off, for whatever reason, the next time you turn it on, it takes about 1-2 seconds to load up and starts up exactly where you left off.Heck, it takes me longer to resume my song with the iPod manually than it takes this thing to resume.Also, the buttons on the stereo work great with iPod.Very easy to navigate the menu's with it, though if you have alot of songs it might take a while to get from A to Z, though you can still use your wheel if you need to get that far.Also has buttons that you can use to turn shuffle on/off, as well as turning repeat on/off for the current song, or the current playlist.

Let's see...the volume on this thing can actually get very loud too.I keep it on about 10 when I'm listening to it, and if I put it on 15-20 I can hear it fine in another room...and it goes all the way up to 32, which I haven't even tried yet.I can't imagine how loud it would be.It also has DBB which, to be honest, without it the audio is terrible, but turn it on and it's like a miracle, though it's like that with any stereo with DBB really.Comes with different covers for the dock so you can use it with a Nano, Classic, Touch, or other popular iPod's.Also comes with an auxiliary cable so you can plug in another MP3 player if you don't have an iPod.

Now, one of my favorite features...a USB port.Simply plug in any USB flash drive with music on it and listen away.I have used four different USB flash drives on it so far, one 1GB drive, two 4GB drives, and an 8GB drive.All of them work seamlessly and takes less than a second to load up and play...even if it is filled up with songs.Had 5GB's+ of music on my 8GB drive, and all I did was change the source to USB and the player started playing in less than a second...it's that fast.Using USB also has the ability to turn shuffle on/off, or turn repeat on/off, again for the current playlist (which in this case would be every song on the drive) or for the song currently playing.The auxiliary option obviously doesn't provide these options as you're simply transferring the audio to play out of the speakers, but you can still turn repeat/shuffle on via your device.

All in all, this is a great stereo, with great features.Sound is perfect and loud, and also create's a nice home for my iPod to keep it when I'm not using it, and charge it at the same time.And it's nice to have because before I was having to plug my iPod into my PC and listen to music off my iPod through my computer (using SharePod), and it was getting kind of annoying, so this thing is great for me.Also accepts C batteries so you can carry it with you and listen to your tunes with ease wherever you go.Would make a great portable player if you want to go outside by the pool, go to the park, or something similar...even has a nice handle.

It's true, what the other reviewer said, the plastic probably isn't the best in the world, but as long as you aren't throwing it off balconies it really shouldn't break.Really, I think any stereo that you drop is probably going to be a bad thing...not just this one.And I've actually knocked it over twice now, with my iPod inside, and it kept playing and wasn't damaged at all...and it kept the cover closed with my iPod secured inside, so I'm glad about that.

Also plan on taking some pictures and adding them later so check for those.

(More customer reviews)This product does exactly what I needed; a way to play my Iaudio7 through speakers.The sound quality is better than I expected, similar to higher quality powered PC speakers.The sound will fill a room, you do not have to hover around the speakers to hear.The bass response is what can be expected from smaller speakers, but better than I expected.The highs are crisp and clear.The included 120v power supply is great when there is access to an outlet.Or, use 6 AA batteries.

The listed product details on this device is limited and the dimensions are incorrect.The speakers are about 7.5 inches wide and about 4.5 inches tall when opened up.They fold up into a small cube thats about 4.5 x 4 x 2 inches - compact and an ingenious design.A carrying case is not included, so the power supply and the small clip that your audio device sits in must be carried around as well.Any audio device that accepts the small headphone jack can be used, you simply plug the speakers plug into your device as you would headphones.The only complaint is that the speakers are exposed and unprotected when opened up.OK- just have to be careful.I recommend this product.

Like some other reviews have pointed out this unit can fail suddenly. About about a month of use the speakers suddenly stopped working, no sound would come from a docked iPod or from the aux input port.
A quick search on the net informed me this is a common defect of this unit and customer service is no help.
Customer service (the manufactures, iLive) has not responded to emails.

I purchased 2 for my kids to use as "speakers" in their rooms for their iPod Touch.The good part is that they fit nice and securely in the product.The bad.... STATIC.The radio was mediocre quality, but to be fair, it is an am/fm radio, not a stereo.I could have lived with everything except the static on the iPod "channel".The only way to reduce the static is to crank the volume.My son tried to listen to it at night, and when the volume is low, it is horrible reception.Even when the iPod is off, and the unit is powered on and set to "iPod" there is static. They are on there way back.I was hopeful that it would work well enough, but alas, static killed the purchase.I would look elsewhere.Both of the units I got created the same static problem...

(More customer reviews)I have the white version of this - out on the pool deck it doesn't get as hot as a dark colored unit would.I read all the reviews for this boombox, and I was very hesitant - together they averaged out rather negative when I was shopping for it.I owned the comparable iLive boombox - can't remember the model number - it was very sleek and looked sort of like a cylinder.Anyway - it was aweful.Kept running the batteries down when turned off - I had to take the batteries out when not in use.It used six D batteries and it was heavy.It had no remote and the iPod control was awkward.The sound was distorted at around the seven or eight level.It stopped working altogether after one year.I paid around $90 for it, but now it goes for around $50.I was so afraid I would wind up with the same disappointment.But anyone who wants a portable (can use batteries) CD, iPod, AM/FM radio together in one box knows that you are at the mercy of the electronics makers.There simply aren't many of them.There should be, in this day and age - but almost none of them have everything you are looking for.So, as my choices were slim, I crossed my fingers and took a chance on the Sony.

Well - this Sony unit is an absolute breath of fresh air.The remote actually does operate the iPod.Yes, the iPod is a little hard to see in there.But the door that holds the iPod - like a cassette door - does a great job of protecting the iPod and keeping it in place.It's a trade off.The sound isn't that of a Bose.It's not going to wake the neighbors - it's not REALLY loud.But out by the pool I can turn it up to hear it anywhere on the deck or in the pool, and it isn't distorted.It's also much lighter than the iLive, even comparing them both without their batteries.It uses C batteries, so with the batteries the advantage increases.I think this is the very best you can do for the money.If you wanted to invest more in a higher quality system, you would still find it difficult to obtain a unit with all the features offered here.Especially, if you want to be able to listen to a baseball game with it with a push of a button.I kind of still think that the old CD boomboxes had better quality sound at higher volume and were cheaper, so I don't know why Sony can't do that today.For this reason, it isn't perfect, so I gave it four stars.Relative to other available units that offer ALL the same features, this unit would deserve five stars.If you want a versatile quality boombox, but you don't need it to blow your hair back, this is your choice!

(More customer reviews)This is a neat boombox.I use it when I am cooking or just relaxing.I have only used it indoors (where it sounds great), but I think it is good (though not the best) for outdoors as well.

I had modest expectations when I purchased this and it has worked very well for me.I use an ipod touch in the docking station at it works great.There is no way to navigate ipod menu's (such as artist, songs, and playlist) on the boombox itself, but I use the touch interface on my ipod and it works fine.Of course, the play, pause, and forward/backward skip buttons on the boombox can be used with the ipod (for example, after you choose your favorite artist, playlist,etc on your ipod unit then you can hit play on the boombox and the song will play).

The cd player works great even with heavily used or slightly scratched cds and also plays cdr or cdrw burnt cds. The radio gets great reception.Although you won't be able to throw a window shattering party with this one, I think it is a good buy for most people.
