Emerson iTone iP100 Portable Sound System for iPods (White) Review

So, I happened along this item, and thought "gee this looks cool and is a good price."I have been looking for one of these systems for my ipod, but have felt that they were too expensive.Natually, when I saw that this was under $50, I could not resist. Boy I sure should have! The item itself looks nice, and it is very easy to use, but the sound SUCKS!!No, I don't expect Bose sound, but I would'nt expect heavy distortion!Yes, as I listened to music, what accompanied it was a constant buzzing and humming sound.I found that the only way to make the sound to go away was to set the ipod backlight to be on all of the time!Besides the humming, the sound would "crackle" if you touched the unit while it was in use.The loud humming and distortion was louder than the music.I had to crank up the volume to almost maxium setting to overpower the distortion!I returned mine, got a refund, and bought the JBL Portable Sound System (totally awsome!!!)I guess you get what you pay for; so please heed my warning, and stay faw away from this product.

iLuv i277BLK iPod Alarm Clock Audio System with Bluepin (Black) Review

iLuv i277BLK iPod Alarm Clock Audio System with Bluepin
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is really a cool product. I was able to pair with my Mobile(HTC TyTN II), Headphone/Headset (Lubix) very easily. It got paired in the first try. The instructions are pretty clear in the manual. Music is good for the small size, Bass is less, naturally. Can't compare with Bose. The music from my Phone through the BluePin on this is really good. The Blupin Receiver was able to receive music till 15-20 feet clearly, after that it breaks. I was able to FF/RR/Stop, Adjust volume from my phone.

As a Bluetooth transmitter, it works great. I connected my TV Audio output to 277 using the line-in and change the mode to AUX with BluePin in TX mode and used a Lubix Bluetooth Head Phone/Set. The transmission was awesome.

Tested with iPod/iPhone and this works as stated. The snooze button in the front is good one. Even we can switch off the display using this. Radio works as stated. Weight less. Looks great. Has a remote but not senstive.

Actually I was searching for a Bluetooth Transmitter for my TV. The Sony and Motorola were quoted @ Amazon for $60. I thought it's pretty costly for the simple Bluetooth Transmitter of class 1. So searched the net and found this for same price. So now I have a Transmitter with multiple functionality.

So this is an All in one model.

Pros

1) Receiver for my Phone to listen music
2) Wireless Transmitter to my TV, so I can watch the TV without disturbing anybody using my Bluetooth head phone
3) Listening to iPod/Radio in Wireless mode with full control.

If you read the manual twice , it easy to understand everything.

Cons

1) The cons, I would say is that it's not Bluetooth2(has 300Ft of range) only Bluetooth1 (30 Ft range)
2) No Equalizer/Pre-set for music.
3) Remote can be made better.

===============================
Update - Nov 26th 2010
After 1 year of use, it is still working good. Bluetooth works fine. Audio quality is good. Like this product

UPDATE - 9/19/2007:I WROTE THE COMPANY VIA E-MAIL.AFTER A COUPLE OF E-MAILS, THEY WROTE BACK, TOLD ME THEY WOULD HONOR THE WARRANTY, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS EXPIRED, AND REPLACED THEUNIT WITH A NEW ONE.THE COMPANY STOOD BY THE PRODUCT.THE NEW UNIT IS AN IMPROVED MODEL, AND IT IS MUCH BETTER.FOR THE PRICE, IT'S AN PRETTY GOOD VALUE.AT LEAST THE ONE WE HAVE WORKS NOW.THANKS TO iLIVE FOR BEING A STAND-UP COMPANY.We purchased this unit at a Kohl's in Arkansas in April. It is a cheaply made unit.If you turn up the volume very loud, the CD player will skip, so apparently there is no anti-skip feature. That's extremely annoying. The unit began to give problems just after the 90-day warranty (imagine that!) and now it will not turn on at all.The clock display will appear if the unit is plugged in, with the time of 12:00, but you cannot set or change it.The iPod will charge, but will not play.We are going to throw this hunk of junk in the trash.I certainly cannot sell it to anyone, as it will not function or play, PERIOD.Perhaps another manufacturer has a better quality type of iPod boom box that will work well.Whatever you do, PLEASE do yourself a favor, and avoid this product like the plague!I intend to write the company over this most disapointing experience.

Finally, you can catch up on the news, listen to the game, or catch a commercial station via the AM/FM tuner, which offers a number of station presets for easy channel surfing.

Philips DC1010 CD Sound Machine with iPod Dock (Black) Review

Philips DC1010 CD Sound Machine with iPod Dock
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There are no other reviews for this "sound machine" yet, so I thought I would share my experience.I wanted a portable speaker unit with a CD player for my ipod, since I use both CDs and my ipod for my work.

This "sound machine" does have the ipod dock, CD player and AM/FM radio. It also has a bass-boost button (which sounds like it "boosts" the bass a little).
It also has a decent volume level.

First problem, this ipod dock did NOT come with the adapter for the most recent Nano (4th generation). Therefore, the Nano just kind of looks silly sitting in the large opening in the front of the player.Because of this fact, I was concerned that it would be easy to bump the Nano around and potentially cause damage to the connector.(I do not know if this can actually happen, I am just assuming that it could, since the Nano does not appear to be properly secured.)

Secondly, the sound quality is only fair.It sounds tinny (if that's a word) and almost a bit fuzzy, like a radio station that's not perfectly tuned-in(that's the best way I can describe it). It's not static, but it was noticeable enough that I instinctivly rechecked my power cord connection and ipod placement.
I have a less expensive, but comparable CD player (without ipod dock) that has MUCH better and clearer sound than this.
No, the price of this player/ipod dock is not high, I still expected a bit more.

Third, the "sound machine" just looks cheap. It's just the first impression I got when I opened the box.Again, my cheaper CD player looks nicer and sturdier than this one.

We are sending our machine back and have decided that, for this price, maybe we will just buy a dock/speakers without the additional CD player.
Good luck, maybe I am just super picky.

iPods haven't killed the boombox--with Philips' DC1010, you can play your music from your iPod and CDs loud and proud. This slick docking entertainment system boasts a full-range speaker system enhanced with powerful Dynamic Bass Boost for a rich and clear sound experience--perfect for pumping up the volume wherever you go.

Plug it in at home and use batteries on the go.
Universal iPod dock on face of unit.
Take it Anywhere
While you're at home, use the DC1010's AC adapter. On the go, just pop in six C batteries (not included) and head to the spot with your tunes in tow.
Play and Charge Your iPod
The DC1010 features a universal iPod dock for playing and charging your iPod, slapped right between the speakers on the unit's face. Your iPod keeps charging while it plays, so when it's time to throw it in your pocket, it'll have plenty of juice.
Play Your Favorite CDs
Not all of us have ripped our entire music collection to our hard drive just yet. The DC1010's top-loading CD player has you covered, and also will play CD-Rs. You also can program a CD to play in a particular order, even repeating certain tracks.
AM/FM Radio
When you need to tune into the news or a favorite radio show, just pull out the antenna and switch to the DC1010's radio.
Dynamic Bass Boost for Deep and Dramatic Sound
In conjunction with the DC1010's immersive full-range speakers, Dynamic Bass Boost maximizes your music enjoyment by emphasizing the bass content of the music throughout the range of volume settings--from low to high--at the touch of a button. Bottom-end bass frequencies usually get lost when the volume is set at a low level. To counteract this, Dynamic Bass Boost can be switched on to boost bass levels, so you can enjoy consistent sound even when you turn down the volume.
Auxiliary Input
The DC1010 also features a 3.5-mm auxiliary input for connecting external devices like MP3 players.

Kicker iK501 Digital Stereo System for iPhone and iPod (Black) Review

Kicker iK501 Digital Stereo System for iPhone and iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A friend of mine bought one of the high dollar BOSE iPod systems which I found very impressive, and which my wife became enamored with. I, however, was not inclined to spend $500+ on a boombox, refined or not.

The Kicker iK501 is actually a bit bigger than the BOSE, and sounds quite good. On the down side, it doesn't sound quite as refined as the BOSE, and if you want to use it outside, you don't have the rechargeable battery thing that the BOSE includes. The iKicker only works plugged in to the wall using its' "brick" in-line power supply. You don't get battery operation - or battery woes - with the iKicker. Both Bose and the Kicker sound very clear and have the "good-car-stereo-sound-in-a-box" thing down pat.

The iKicker has deeper and louder bass than the Bose. I haven't measured it, but my ear is pretty good from listening to high end stereos over the years, and I suspect that the Bose system is probably better EQed for smooth, flat frequency response and there is clearly some level dependent EQ going on that I suspect is tweaked to match the human ear at various volume levels. After all, that's how Bose made their bread-and-butter with the 901s 40 years ago: Dr. Bose's little speakers sounded fantastic with the equalizer before the power amp in the circuit turned on, and lame as all get out without the electronic equalization.

The Bose has no tone controls at all: the iKicker has Treble and Bass that you can adjust to taste and volume level to get a ***VERY*** good sound, which is fairly comparable to the Bose. Listening to acoustic music through either system is great. The iKicker sounds clear and not overly colored by the speakers, although I do think the Bose is a tad more "neutral" sounding, which may or may not be good depending on your taste. For Rock and Roll, I think the sound of the iKicker is actually a bit better than the Bose, and although I'm not into it, I'm sure the hip-hop crowd would think the Bose is lame by comparison for that genre. The iKicker has a passive radiator on the back driven by the woofers to augment the bass, and you can hear and feel it working. The midrange is clear and well-defined. Crisp highs make the high hat sound like it's in the room. And did I mention the iKicker can get LOUDER than the Bose? It can probably keep up with most house party crowds; I doubt the Bose could cut it.

I use a 4th generation iPod Nano with it, and the remote control works the Nano as best I can tell, although I haven't really spent the time to figure out the iPod OS in great detail. But it does all the basics if you are too lazy to get up off the couch. It has a blue display to help you make adjustments to volume, tone, balance... the usual suspects.

But the *really* big plus over the Bose is the PRICE, WAY less than half of the cheaper Bose, and less than a third of the good one. I think I got it for around $165, IIRC, which I thought was within reason for a **very** nice boombox that can keep up with the "big stereo" in most of my friends' living rooms. Of course you have to add the cost of the iPod to that, but you end up with a great-sounding jukebox you can move around without much hassle that will play *all* your music without the hassle of changing CDs, and with NO fragile, dangley cord attachments. The only dangley part of the iKicker is the power supply brick, which is pretty substantial and looks sturdy. No puny connectors or chords. The iPod plugs right in in the front just like the Bose system. Construction looks solid.

I don't think anyone could be all that unhappy with either system. But for my money - and I LIKE good sound systems - the iKicker makes more sense.

Wireless Remote
Dig deeper into DSP with the thin infrared remote, fully featured to fine-tune the iPod or iPhone's music and video content. It helps to navigate with ease through the iK501 system menu, adjusting bass, treble, and aux-in options, as well as through the iPod or iPhone's menus and sub-menus. Skip forward and back, fast-forward and back, play and pause, volume, mute, and power on/off selections have their own buttons too.
Rotary Control Knob
The rotary knob manually serves as the power and selection push button, and controller for bass, treble, auxiliary-input options, or standby mode. Standby will continue to charge the iPod or iPhone even when the system is powered down. In the dark, the knob is back-lit in blue and the display LCD screen continues to steer the user easily through the menu.

RCA RCD175i Portable CD Player with Dock for iPhone Review

RCA RCD175i Portable CD Player with Dock for iPhone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been looking for a small portable stereo / cd player / iphone player for a few months now. I finally settled and took a chance on the RCA RCD175i. Not because I found so many great and helpful reviews. That sure didn't happen! I couldn't even find one review, lol I purchased this mainly because it looked nice and had most of the features I was looking for. The RCA RCD175i came in perfect new condition and was packed well thanks to Amazon. The speakers sound good for their size. They can fill a decent sized room with plenty of sound. It's no JBL or Bose, but you get what you pay for. The cd player is tray loading which is kind of a neat feature on a portable stereo. It also came with a free Santana cd in the tray? I'm not a big Santana fan, but that's still cool. The iphone dock works great. It charges the iphone and you can control the iphone's music skip and play/pause features with the remote. This stereo takes 6 D size batteries if you want it to be fully portable. I haven't used the radio yet. You really don't need a radio when you have the I Heart Radio app on your iphone. The only thing I wish this had is a better way of docking the iphone. Don't get me wrong the dock is fine and works as it should, but I like the front docking and cover idea like on the Sony ZSS4IP because you can carry it around while the iphone is playing and it helps protect too. Over all I'm very happy with my purchase. I hope this review is helpful.

I was looking for speakers and something to keep my iPod charged while I listened to it at work and saw this advertised at Kohl's.Checked Amazon and found it for less (and in black). Most iPod boomboxes get poor reception but this one does better than most I have seen.I have the iLuv iPod boombox for use at home but wanted something a little smaller for work.Radio gets suprisingly clear reception (usually a problem in offices) and the sound is good.Defintely not useful for a party but if you want something inexpensve, portable, with good sound and an AM/FM radio, this gets the job done.My only complaint is that the LED display can be hard to see at an angle, but that is a minor issue.

Overall, the boombox is ok. Looks nice. Very portable. Like the remote. Haven't used the CD player yet, so can't comment on that. If you have a fine-tuned ear, I suggest you look for another product. I hear a lot of static when I listen to my iPod unless I turn up the volume. I still use it almost daily, but wished I had done a little research to find something better. But given it's low price, it's handy to have to take places and not worry about it getting damaged.

Memorex MiniMove Boombox for iPod Review

Memorex MiniMove Boombox for iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Highs:
Has good sound quality for the size, lightweight, sleek design with integrated carrying handle, charges 2G iPod Touch, FM radio is a nice bonus, includes small wireless remote with belt clip, runs on AC power or 4 AA batteries for portable enjoyment

Lows:
Hollow plastic enclosure feels a bit cheap for $50. iPod dock adapters are out of date (no adapter for 5G+ iPod Classic or any generation of iPod Nano or Touch). Pressing the buttons on the front of the unit require just a bit too much force, causing the whole unit to move before the button has been pressed.

Summary:
The Memorex MiniMove is a cool and highly portable iPod docking station that plays and charges all dockable iPod models. Overall, the highs outweigh the lows, making a great portable dock for enjoying your music at home and on the go.

Altec Lansing inMotion MIX iMT800 Portable Digital Boom Box for iPhone and iPod Review

Altec Lansing inMotion MIX iMT800 Portable Digital Boom Box for iPhone and iPod

I own the Altec Lansing T612 Digital Speaker for iPod and iPhone (Black) and I was very surprised at how much better the iMT800 sounds. I will admit that for the price difference you should be able to expect better sound...and you can. The iMT 800 sounds very good - about on the same level as a nice rack stereo system. The high notes are crisp and there is strong continuity all the way down to bass. While the bass is not overly deep (effective to 50-60Hz would be my guess) it is more than adequate - the iMT800 does not sound punchy at all - instead the entire frequency response range is nice and smooth. I was very impressed.

Other Features

- Comes with 5 different adapters to ensure that any model of iPod will work. In my video review I show an iPhone (2nd G), and iPod Touch (2nd G) and an older Video iPod and they all fit nicely onto the iPod Dock.

- As you would expect the iPod dock will charge your iPod.

- One very nice feature is that when the iMT800 is used with an iPhone it will automatically silence the music when you receive a call - in fact, the ring tone is played at full volume over the Boom Box speakers! (Shown in the video)

- Decent remote - it would be a bit nicer with digital display - but it probably isn't worth the extra $$$.

- While it is not rechargeable you can use the iMT800 with D batteries - which makes it perfect for taking to the beach, park, or wherever.

- Plenty of volume to fill large areas

- It comes equipped with a FM radio and the ability to program in four presets (I will admit that 4 presets is a bit meager).

- 2 auxiliary inputs - this means that you can plug anything that has a headphone jack into the iMT 800 - this includes iPod shuffles (as seen in the video), CD players, tape decks, computers, Squeezeboxs... you name it- if it has a headphone jack it can be played on the iMT800. In fact, up to three devices can be hooked in at once (And then you can toggle through the inputs)

- Not too heavy - about 13 pounds so it can moved without too much effort

Areas for improvement

- Not the most attractive looking speaker unit. Not a problem for me - but this may not look at home on a walnut bookcase (or any nicer looking decor). This unit is designed for indoor/outdoor functionality - style was left at the door (or at least partially).

-It would be nice if it was rechargeable - it would add cost, but it may be worth it... however, there is nothing that would prevent you from buying rechargeable batteries!

- The display - could be made larger... and a full color display would have been a nice upgrade.

Final verdict -

I know I listed several areas for improvement, but in truth they are very minor points. The biggest factor is that this is a great sounding speaker dock - and it sounds significantly better than the less expensive Altec Lansing T612 Digital Speaker for iPod and iPhone (Black) so if great sound is your requirement you can buy with confidence!

Sony ZS-S2iP CD Boombox with iPod Dock, Black Review

Sony ZS-S2iP CD Boombox with iPod Dock, Black

Almost did not buy this little gem after reading the rather luke-warm reviews about the sound quality and other nit-picking items.Found this on clearance at a local box store and for the price took a flyer that it would serve for picnics and other outdoor music uses. This little box is GREAT for the use I wanted it for!It is NOT a replacement for my two home theater systems sound systems. It DOES NOT have a permanent hearing loss creating bass presence. But, it DOES run anywhere off of "C" cell batteries. It DOES play almost any variety of CD media. It DOES have a decent FM and AM tuning engine, and even more interesting...although it is not indicated anywhere on the box or in the advertising....the thing allows for my new 160 Gig iPod Classic to be plugged right into the front of it (even nicer with the little docking adapter that comes with the iPod) and the Sony remote actually operates the Generation 6.5 iPod perfectly!Operates all the iPod wheel functions, skips songs, THE WORKS!If there has to be a negative, the plastic carrying handle seems a little lightweight, but time will tell how it stands up to use.Nice product!!
